Multiplayer.... servers?

Hello fellow kerbanauts! I'm new here and just getting into the game, which is awesome btw. I read the dev blog update about planning for multiplayer and was wondering if they were talking about creating multiplayer servers like Minecraft. I imagine players could run a server with their own Kerbal Solar system and allow friends to play in it, doing joint missions or competing with each other. I think it would be cool if player could have their own launch facility on Kerban and their own flag and they could run around the system claiming asteroids and areas of planets, find "surprises" before their friends for extra kudos.

If this has been discussed somewhere else, please post a link. I searched but nothing came back like what I said above. Thanks.

The devs have no plans for multiplayer of any sort, as per the "what not to suggest" post in the development section of the forums: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/17168-What-not-to-suggest Which is probably why searching for it didn't turn up anything.

If they've gone back on this I don't know about it. Do you have a link to said blog post?

Multiplayer in KSP is inherently problematic because of the need for time acceleration, so I wouldn't hold my breath for it.

So this is what we mean when we say Expansion Packs for KSP. We’re not talking about small content bundles, we’re talking about major game-changing sets of features, like Multiplayer, or Colonization. Things that add not just content, but new gameplay possibilities. Things that might not fit the initial concept very well, but we think are too cool to just cut off forever.

Maybe I shouldn't have used the word "planning". Thanks for the link to that post.

Just get the Kerbal LiveFeed mod and then join one of the servers, or you can make your own. You cannot interact with other players, though. You can see where they are on the orbital map, chat with them, and share screenshots, but no docking or crashing into each other.

Multiplayer....

Sounds fun at first, but think about this:

You make a huge recreation of the ISS, plus every manned/unmanned mission that NASA or any other space agency has ever attempted. You have landed on every planet, and have bases on each one. It took you quite a long time to do so, and when your friend joins so you can show it off, he immediately crashes into your station, and flips your bases somehow.

Griefing in KSP would be a ridiculous affair.

Sounds like a case of "not choosing your friends wisely". Besides, I imagine server difficultly settings. Set to more forgiving if you know your friend is a novice, and less forgiving if you and your buddies are pros.

I think it would be fun to do joint missions. I also think it would be fun to do PvP. There is a laser and missile mod so why not put those guys to good use!

yup, and with all the military mods, weapons, etc. that people are making, there seem to be quite a few players who'd love nothing better than to log in on a multiplayer server, hyperedit some missiles into orbit right next to the stuff you've worked hard to build for the last several weeks, and blow it all to smithereens.

****IF**** it were ever to become a reality for MP action, I would say that interaction with other players activities could/should be locked down. Sure, throw millions of nukes at my base. But because that base can only be affected by my actions, your nukes don't mean jack. HOWEVER, if I grant permissions for different individually controlled interactions (IE: Allowing other players to dock at my station, allowing them to board my station, allowing them to transfer fuel, etc, etc) then that'd be alright.

I think it'd be rather cool to be down on Mun, running around on my buggy then have someone else show up and land right next to me. Or have several players engaged in a massive mining racket scheme operation and watching different Kerbals operate the gas pumps, fly the processed minerals from the landing site up to the orbiting station, etc.

Then again, it'd be a PITA to have someone land and drink up all my Kethane. :P

Ohhh to dream.

Oh...The possibilities...i just cant handle it...

Although KSP will never be officially a way game...I would enjoy building laser-missile defenses on my ships/stations!!

There is a discussion for multiplayer already being held in the development forum. One discussion is far more than enough.

If you'd like to continue this, please do it there, as this is not the place for this.
