Save a mission in Progress

Recommended Posts

Forgive me if this is a question for which there is an answer in the forums already but I tried a search and did not find the answer either that or perhaps I'm missing something obvious.

I can't seem to find a way to save a mission in progress. I'd like to be able to save a mission, for example, when I'm already setup for a special maneuver or some such other scenario.

I'm sure it's easy but I'd appreciate the help. Thanks.

Two answers to this depending on what you mean.

1. There is a quick save/load for during a mission. I'm not sure if and/or when this is cleared (as in does going to the main menu remove the quick save). http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Key_Bindings

2. All missions are saved if you hit escape and click Space Center instead of ending the flight.

Currently you have two options, both available in the pause menu. you can either return to the space center, which will leave your ship where it is so you can come back to it, or you can end the flight which will destroy it.

Unfortunately, maneuver nodes cannot be saved.

There is also a quicksave (F5) and quickload feature (hold F9)

On some systems, like a mac, you will need to use the fn key to get your function keys to activate.

So to summerize - and make sure I am right:

A game (ones own star system) only has one save file. It is saved whenever the game is closed, quicksave is used or one returns from a flight to the space center.

Using "end flight" deletes all parts flying around in the system. What happens to parts that have been undocked end redocked to other parts - e.g. I fly a component up to my space station, add it to the station, undock my transport from it and end flight - what happens?

Does "end flight" reset all progress/movement of all other flights - or planetary movement?

it had a persistant save file (your game) and a quick save save file (so quicksave don't overright the persistant)

It is saved whenever the game is closed, quicksave is used or one returns from a flight to the space center.

Game close / end flight / autosaving -> save to persistant

quick save -> save to quicksave

End flight only end the flight of the current ship and so just it's part. it wont delete other flight in progress.

Does "end flight" reset all progress/movement of all other flights - or planetary movement?

It doesn't reset anything, just delete the current ship.
