Munar Space station

the only point I see in it is if you don't want to have an expendable landing system. So you'd have this station, your crew arrives in orbit around the Mun and docks to it, and an awaiting lander takes the crew and sends them down. When they get back up, they dock again, and go back to Kerbin with the original ship. The lander gets refueled.

Been done many times... and many times we rebuild them after a new release of KSP comes out lol.

But still go ahead and build your Munar Orbital Station... It's great fun if you add a fuel depot to it as well.

Edit: I think stations will be 100000000x better when they add in internal transfers and the ability to move about inside the vehicles/pods/stations/whatever.

People have build space stations in orbit around just about every planet or moon. But do it nonetheless, it is a fun project to do and really convenient as a refueling station for interplanetary missions (You only need about 300 dV to get from low munar orbit to kerbal escape, as opposed to the nearly 1k dV from low kerbal orbit. So you end up in interplanetary space with more fuel)

Has anyone built a station in Low KerbOL Orbit? :)

I have a Mun station. Attached is a rescue lander just in case anyone fluffs their landing on the surface. There's also a normal lander, which means visiting craft don't have to bring their own lander. There's a few escape pods in there somewhere just in case there's some sort of catastrophe on the station, and of course there's a handful of re-fuelling tanks.

My Munar station gets the most use out of any station I have. Well it did.

I had a ship docked there, specifically for building a Munar base around the Neil Armstrong Memorial. Ships with parts flew to the station, docked the part on the bottom of this ship then flew into the Mun (to reduce debris). The landing ship then fly down and dropped of the part, sky crane style. The station itself was a big fuel depot, with 6 orange tanks of fuel, and tons of monoprop. It had potential for unlimited amounts, but I limited it due to lag (the 0.19 version had up to 16 orange tanks but lagged at about 8).

The whole setup worked fantastically.

Can't give exact screenshots, due to being overseas, but here they are approximately. Basically I clone my fuel depots around every planet/moon.

Version 0.20 fuel Depot:

In 0.20 I decided to add crew capacity, the 0.19 version only had room for 2 Kerbals, but being extendible I could add crew quarters.

I'm considering a new design again in 0.20 to make it more aesthetically pleasing, but functionally I am happy with it so far.

It's amazing stuff, guys.

But how do I refuel a ship who's docked? Is there a function that permits it, or should I detach the fuel tank where the spacecraft is attached?

Right click one fuel tank to display the fuel, then alt-right click the other and the resource display shows in/out buttons for each fuel type. Works for fuel, mono prop and electricity in stock.
