Landing boosters with parachutes

Recommended Posts

When detaching my booster rockets, I want them to reach the ground safely. (My space program runs frugally and efficiently!) Adding parachutes is a no-brainer, but how do I get the boosters to deploy the parachutes at an appropriate altitude? Including the parachute deployment in the same stage as the booster release means the parachutes are deployed far too high.

parachutes semi-deploy when a specific pressure is reached and fuly deploy at a specific height!

I know its weird....

that means, that you can activate the parachutes in space and they will work, when you come down to atmosphere ;)

As long as they have been given the order to deply (by putting them in the same stage as the seperator), they will deploy.

However if you are up high enough, the falling boosters will unspawn eventually (stuf not in orbit will unspawn if you are to far away from it)

Yeah...adding parachutes to boosters is largely cosmetic at this point. Simple truth is that the way most folks put them on and with the mass of the actual booster, the thing would crash into the ground (for all the usual reasons: too much mass, didn't slow the thing down enough, etc.) anyway if the game didn't just pitch it after a while.

I've pretty much given up on putting chutes on my boosters; as long as the game will let you get away with doing that sort of thing, all it does is add mass you don't need. Most folks around here will tell you that's a Bad Thing, and they're right.
