Voyage To Planet NX GG 1667

After the recent development of 'Faster Than Light Drives' The Kerbal Space Agency had it's eyes on one specific target.Planet NX GG 1667 was a large planet which from all observations proved to have the perfect atmospheric composition for habitation Planet NX GG 1667 is roughly 9 times the size of Kerbin (Slightly smaller then Jool) Onboard the vessel "Kerbin Freedom",14 brave Kerbals set out to NX GG 1667."Commander Bill",said Bob kerman,"Mission control gave us the go,we're ready to engage the FTL drive.Faster Than Light Drives,don't actually make you travel faster then light,rather they fold space over it self to open up portals of a sort through space,but they ended up getting the nickname FTL drives.After 6 successful tests of the FTL drive it was ready for the grandest voyage of them all.As the crew of "Kerbin Freedom",engaged the FTL.Mission control watched as the blip that represented the vessel vanish from their monitors."They're on their own",said Adfree Kerman."Wow,now that was cool",hollered Jebediah."Calm down Jeb,I don't know why they always recruit you for

these missions",scoffed Bob."Maybe because on several tests I proved the best pilot in the Solar System",Jeb replied arrogantly."Yeah yeah,whatever"."Entering NX GG 1667's sphere of influence.It's supprisingly weaker then anticipated,Captain",said Ribely Kerman,while still looking at his monitor."How much weaker",Bill asked as he flipped several switches."Roughly that of Kerbins,Captain"."It's nearly ten times larger the Kerbin,but about ten times less dense",Ribely said in an inquisitive tone."RCS Engaged,prepping for orbital capture burn",Bill said in his usual no-nonsense tone.Just as the ship pivoted the crew got their first look at Planet NX GG 1667."Wooah",said Jebediah,smearing his face against the viewing port glass."It's like a giant Kerbin",replied Bob,From what I can see there appears to be 3 major continents on this hemisphere"."Get back into your harnesses",Bill ordered,"Orbital capture burn in T-4,3,2,1".One quick burst from the engines and they were in orbit around the most beautiful planet they had ever seen.

Chapter two

"She sure is a beauty",Jeb smiled with glee," I can see my bachelor pad down there in the next few months"."I hereby call this planet

Jebtopia",Jeb declared nearly shouting."That's not even clever,Jeb",Bob sneered.On the control bridge,the engineers,were preparing the one of the surface rovers."So basically it's going to work like the Duna Curiosity,but since we're so close the signal delay will only be about 1.9 seconds so we will be able to remote control it",Ribely explained to Commander Bill."It's ready launch at your command,Captain"."Alright then,we launch immediately".The intercom buzzed,"Jebediah you are needed on the bridge"."That's right,Jebediah said,"I'm needed and your not"."Shut up,Jeb",Bob laughed.Jebediah pulled himself down the corridor floating freely floating."Jebediah here,what can i do for you"? Jeb whipped is hair and flashed a smile at one of the female Kerbal engineers."God",she muttered as she left the bridge."Jeb,enough of that I need you to pilot the rover to the surface of the plane",Bill said sternly."Alrighty Capty-tain",Jeb said as he made his way to the remote guidance computer."Decoupling in 5,4,3,2,1,....Jeb you have control.

Jebediah made exaggerated plane and laser sounds,"Ok"said jeb,"How long is this gonna take"? "About four days until the touch down",Bill said."WHAT"Jeb got out of this seat and started to leave,"Call me when my skills are actually needed"."If only we could like time-warp or something".....

Chapter Three

Four days later a great deal has been learned about Planet NX GG 1667,it has 1 moon and hundreds of tiny un-identified hunks of space junk.It's atmosphere is composed of 78% Nitrogen,21% Oxygen and low amounts of other gases.Planet NX GG 1667,is very geologically active,Earth quakes and volcanoes are constantly erupting.NX GG 1667's moon is larger then Jools largest moon Tylo but has less gravity then Kerbins Mun.Large storm systems can be seen traveling across the planet.The large areas of green land confirms the fact that life does exist on this planet. Jebediah and Bob made their way to the bridge,"It's my big day",said Jeb."I'm landing the rover,what are you doing with your life Bob"? "Well i'm uhh,you know...uhhh umm"."Yeah that's what I thought",Jebediah chuckled a little."Seriously i don't know why you're my best friend Jeb",Bob muttered."Admit it,you LOOOOOOOVE me",Jeb said as he twirled around as he floated down the hall."Shut up Jeb,just pilot your rover"... They got to the bridge and Jeb took his seat while Bill,Bob and the engineers watched the monitors and monitored the Rover."Entering atmosphere",said Ribely."Deploying drag chutes","Stand by for Skycrane seperation"."Jebediah,ready on the controls",ordered Bill."Sky crane dropping,NOW!",said Ribely excitedly.Jeb skillfully pilot the skycrane down to the surface of the mysterious planet."Detaching,......Touch down"! Jeb jumped out of his seat and moon walked as he floated towards the back of the bridge."Oh yeah,who's the Kerbal",he wooped.

"Ehhhh I coulda' done that",Bob said.Just as Jeb got off cloud 9 he noticed all the entire crew focused on one monitor."What is it guys"?

As he peeked at the screen shoving a few people out of the way to get a closer look he saw what they had seen. A silver shiny gleeming tower rising from behind a sand dune.

Chapter Four

"Get over that dune",said Bill clinging to his headset.The rovers wheels hauled it up the steep sand hill.once it was at the top the camera panned down.Every Kerbals jaw dropped,there were hundreds of these shiny towers rising out of the desert,roads with massive automobiles.Jeb grabbed his camera."Get closer",Jeb screeched! "Wait",said Bill,"They may be hostile"."But for the purpose of exploration".... Bill smiled as he drove the Rover closer. One of the giant Automobiles stopped in a what appeared to be a parking lot like back on Kerbin.A Kerbanoid figure stepped out,"Woah,it's huge",said Bill."Looks about 1.7 meters",Ribely said while excitedly jotting down notes."Guys",Jebediah said,"We just made the biggest discovery in Kerbal history,and it's all thanks to ME"! Everyone wanted to be annoyed at Jeb but they were filled with to much pure excitement to feel anything but joy.The rover crossed a road and just as they took some more beautiful pictures of the scenery.....*Crash* A huge truck ran over the rover. * Signal Lost*. They all stared in dismay."I'LL PILOT THE MANNED MISSION",Jebediah shouted.

Chapter Five

"Jebediah,we have no idea weather they will respond to our presence positively our negatively".We'll need more information before we can execute a manned landing",Bill went on to continue work with the engineers.

"I still can't get over the size of it",Bill marveled,"It's a Jool sized Kerbin."I sure wish mission control knew what was going on"."Commander Bill",

Ribley shouted as he speed to the bridge."What is it Ribely"? "Remember all of NX GG 1667's space debris?" "Well after some studying I found it all to be man made",This is a space travelling civilization!" "Clearly much less advanced than we are,but I have here images of what I believe is a space station in a low orbit around the planet".Ribely rambled uncontrollably,"As he loaded Bill with his evidence and photographs.

"Are you sure about this,Ribley"? Bill said seriously. "100% Captain". "We can't waste another minute',said Bill,"get us on a rendezvous course with that Space Station and try to raise them on the com channel"."I GOT A RESPONSE!" came a cry from one of the system operators.

The crew gathered around to listen."Um,what are they saying"? Bob asked."I guess we didn't think about that one",Jebediah said disappointedly."Alright crew we need to devise a method of communication,and fast",said Bill."I want every crew member on it". "Yes Captain!" they yelled.

Chapter Six

"Captain",Gennie Kerman called as she headed to the bridge."I've developed a series of pictographs to display our basic history and our journey here"."If this race is intelligent enough,they should respond with their own pictograph series".Bill looked through the images on the monitor,"Good work Gennie"."Send the transmission",he ordered."It should be a few minutes before they can construct their response",Gennie said as she stared at the monitors."Were getting the reply Captain". "Bill,Gennie,and the rest of the control crew watched,biting their nails as the images loaded.High defanition images of the Kerbanoid figures were shown."Wow",said Jeb,"Their heads are so proportionately tiny".

The slide show shows the advancements in technology of the species and they're first space launches.The very last image was digitally rendered and was of one of them holding hands with a Kerbal."Peace"...muttered Ribely.The entire bridge started celebrating.

Chapter Seven

Several days have passed and the Kerbin Freedom is nearing it's rendezvous with the Space Station orbiting around NX GG 1667.The alien species and the Kerbals have been communicating via pictographs and know a great deal about eachothers history,biology,and culture.

"I'm gonna get me a hot alien babe",said Jebediah as he played around with a floating pen."Ha,yeah right Jebediah,you can't even get a girl on Kerbin",said Bob laughing."Isn't it strange how low this planets density is?"asked Ribley."Infact recent studies show most planets in this Solar system to have a low density relative to the Kerbol System." "And to think were only a half hour away from making contact with an alien species",Ribely floated back to his monitor."Prep for the rendezvous stabilization burn",said bill to Ribley and the other crew member.The behemoth ship,the largest ever assembled in orbit around Kerbin,swung it's way around into a retrograde position.As the ship neared the Alien Space Station they commenced the burn."Rendezvous is stable,Captain",said Geofin the head of the propulsion functions.The Kerbals once again pressed them selves up against the viewing ports to get a good look at the station."Wow,it's huge",marveled Bob,"It's gotta be atleast 500 standard Kerbin units long"."That's what she said",said Jebediah too himself."Seriously Jebediah,grow up",Bob scoffed and floated down the hallway."Uhh Captain Bill,our docking ports are nearly 4 times smaller then theirs,absolutely no possibility of a connection",said on of the Kerbin freedoms engineers."I want your team working on a solution",said Bill slightly frustratedly."We well EVA our way to the station if we have to,but for now see if there's a way we can dock".

Chapter Eight

"Captain Bill,here's our solution",said an engineer. They presented a modified docking port extension."This should allow a proper seal between the Kerbin Freedom and the Alien Station".

"Excelent get it outfitted onto the sip immediately",Bill ordered."I can't believe we're just minutes away from the biggest step in Kerbal history",Bob was bouncing off the walls."I can picture the headlines back on Kerbin,'Manliest Kerbal Jebediah Kerman Makes Amazing Discovery'",Jebediah headed back to the viewing port.As the two vessels were pulling in towards each other every Kerbal held their breaths."Confirmed docking Captain Bill",shouted Ribely."Open the seal",said Bill.As the the seal began to open there was a terrible bursting sound."Hull breach",said the main system computer."RIBELY,GET THAT PORT SEALED!" Bill yelled trying not to panic."It's jammed captain!" The Kerbals all grabbed onto something as the air began to be sucked out of the ship.

Chapter Nine

"Jeb grab on",cried Bob as he threw his hand at Jebediah.Their hands were locked in an endless duel with the gushing forces of the vacuum.On

the other side of the bridge Ribley was losing his grip."Hang in there Ribley",shouted Commander Bill.

"I'm not gonna make it Commander,it's so beautiful".Ribley gazed out the window and repeated,"It's so beautiful".And with a tear in his eye he wasn't able to hold on any longer."NO,RIBLEY"! Bill nearly let go himself as he tried to grab Ribley,but it was to late.Ribley was pulled out into the cold unforgiving emptiness of space.Commander Bill had never felt so much like giving up before,in his entire life of success this was his lowest moment."I counldn't save him",though Bill.And as the oxygen levels were depleting Bill realized he mustn't give up."JEB,grab me that cable!" He shouted."I can't make it over to you Commander",cried Jeb,his voice nearly drowned out by the noise."Were gonna jump at eachother",Bill yelled

over the deafening sound."WHAT?"

"Just trust me Jeb!" Jeb nodded.And without another second to waste the two leaped towards eachother.-Smack- Jeb and Bill collided mid air and Bill grab the cable."We got to get close enough to the docking port to manually close it",Bill started lowering down on the rope.Just then the hatch closed.The Kerbals all fell to the ground with a thud."What,how did that happen",Jebediah was stunned.Just then they all turned to the bridge viewing windows to see one of residents of the Alien Station.It was wearing a suit very similar to the Kerbals standard Astronaut Suit.

"Look at that,he's waving at us",said Bob.

Chapter Ten

The Kerbals all gazed at the awkwardly waving being."This is it Gentlemen",Bill said,"But at this time I'd like us all to remember Ribley".Jebediah still hadn't got over the shock of the recent events."Were safe now Kerbals,the mission must continue as it was meant to",Bill walked to the windows and repeated the waving motion of the Alien.Just then the Alien help what looked like a primitive form of Kerbal cameras.And made a flash as it took pictures of the kerbals and their ship.

"It's studying us",Bob was outraged."Doesn't it see we lost a Kerbal,and all it does is take pictures!". Jebediah finally stood up and walked

to the window."You coulda' come a little sooner".... "Let it onboard",said Bill quietly. "But Comman-"I said let it onboard.They crew took all the necessary precautions with the modified docking port,making sure there wasn't a repeat of the last incident.

Chapter Eleven

The creature awkwardly squirmed through the docking ports tight space into the vessel of the Kerbals. The somber Kerbals stared at the gleeful creature who was shaking with excitement as it continued to take pictures and ramble to itself in it's language. Bill then stepped forward to indicate himself as the Captain; The alien presented a new series of pictographs seeming to display the races studying eachothers biology and technology. "He, who gets the best out of that deal?", Jebediah said staring at the alien. "We need a more efficient means of communication, that is priority one', Bill said. The biologist circled the alien taking measurements and obersving," Well it's hard to tell with its suit on, but its proportions are radically different from our own." "Miniscule head, short arms, long legs, it's practically the opposite of us. "Yeah, it's pretty disturbing to look at", Jebediah giggled. "I bet it's thinking the exact same about us Jeb, Bill retorted. "Eh whatever it's still gross, I definitely don't want an alien babe anymore". "Hah, you were never getting one anyway....and i'm sure there's laws against that", Bob laughed.

After I read that I looked back to where it was said to be the size of Jool, then everything just clicked into place, especially with the mention of the atmosphere and the low density of its moon.

I don't know, but I think it should have some drama/action type stuff in there somewhere. Maybe a hull breach with a joint repair mission. Or something.

No reason why the excitement of exploration can't have some drama too You've already got the classic backdrop of first contact to carry the plot with, so see how that works out. It might end up peacefully, in which case a bit of Ramnrmeul style 'peril and rescue' drama would work. Or it might go horribly wrong, in which case there's plenty of room for action in there! See how the story goes as you write it.
