Can you add struts to strenghten space station or rockets while in space?

can you add struts or beams to a space station or rocket in space? (EVA?)and how do you do it?

Well I know that you can add "quantum struts" on the fly, but that's a mod that you'll need to install.

You could strengthen things on the fly by docking a structure to two places at once... It would be very hard to pull off but if you were really good at docking than you probably could do it...
