Need help with my Mining Train Mk2 (Kethane)

Recommended Posts

I'm having trouble getting my trains carts to not shear off the train atm. I've tried using docking ports and/or KAS to hold the crafts together. Anyone know of a fix?

Mods used on current version. Just Kethane and KAS (I think... should only be those two...)

TouhouTorpedo's multiwheels addon contains two damned robotics joints specifically created for the purpose of trailers and such. You'll need the infernal robotics fork to make them work in 0.20 though. It's all explained in TT's thread here.

Also, that is one cool looking train you got going there.

I'm having trouble seeing where you usually "attach".

I assume you add a docking port to the girder you have hanging out the back? If so, it'll never work because it has no horizontal leeway.

You could either make a "hole" out of girders and drop another girder into it, then use KAS to make a docking connection but it'll tow like .. a semi trailer? or you could significantly strengthen that girder and add a docking port to the back of it. Remember any trailing carriage needs steering locked on _all_ wheels or i'll just pull straight off. Also turn off steering on the train except for the front couple of pairs, certianly off the back 2 pairs or it will pull sideways against the docking port.

It works the way it should. just changed around where the girders are. It works on a flex of the parts. Girders have a pretty decent flex as is. Shutting off the steering on the back end actually made it shear faster. with the steering enabled the girders flex less.

Of course turning at high speeds is impossible with this set up :P (top heavy)

I'll see if I can get the hinge to do the job. would look better.

Edit:Hinge acts the same as the Girders. Minimal improvement.

Now to strap it to a rocket.

Have you tried using TT's ballbearing joint instead of the hinge? Meaning the connection between two cars would be more like that between a truck and a trailer, but I'm getting pretty decent steering capabilities lugging around a full Jumbo tank trailer with my truck.
