Way to get celestial object type

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering if there's a way to get what type a celestial object is, such as if its a star, rocky planet, or gas giant. I want to make an atmospheric scoop for collecting kethane, but will only work on gas giants.

Since the only gas giant is "Jool" at the moment, you can use bodyName under CelestialBody class.

The modding api does not have such fine distinctions about the celestialbody. The impulse for a general technique is noble, but as noted above, unnecessarily complex in our current environment. If unconvinced that you're_not_gonna_need_it, consider testing a range on the celestialBody.maxAtmosphereAltitude . Too low-> body is Eve. Too high -> Kerbol.

But, to be frank, I'd want to race a magnetic scoop jet around kerbol's atmosphere in a desperate dash to gather enough kethane before it overheated.
