Multiplayer is made by throwing code together it seems :p

I smell a troll.

...

No, really. I'm part billy goat (don't ask, my mother got around). I know what I'm talking about. I'm qualified for troll detection.

But anyway, as for that link, it's just like every other "I know this super cool, super secret secret but I can't say anything specific so I'm just going to throw it out there like scraps to wolves and watch you kill each other over it" routine found across the internet. Unless I see some legitimate discussion and proof-of-concept work going on, I'm universally skeptical.

I'm not asking for it, and (while I want it) certainly realise it's highly unlikely it'll be added at all. I was just pointing out that steam post to see if others thought he was trolling or not~

I still don't think that it was worth making a thread over it. Take it to the IRC, where you can simply discuss things without having to make a whole new thread.

I don't think that playable multiplayer mode is possible in game like KSP.

Time acceleration ruins whole idea.

And, by the way, I DON'T WANT ANYBODY TO MESS WITH ME IN MY OWN SANDBOX! ;)

Lol it's a discussion forum. If you don't want to read the thread then don't click on it.

Except for the fact that multiplayer discussion is against the rules, which it clearly states. Also, why do you think that rule is in place? It's because multiplayer has been brought up over and over only to come back to the same "no, it's not coming any time soon" that the developers always give. There's just no point anymore.

Wow that must be the forum thread with the highest amount of bs I've seen in a while. Does all the Steam forums look like that?

Not all of them, but from what I've seen there tends to be a larger amount of idiots...and abuse of language (Though the latter could somewhat be excused due to English being a non-native language)

There's a high quantity of people who's first language isn't English on here too, probably over the half of the community. It's not even my native language. But ever since KSP popped on Steam, I have gotten the feeling than more and more people are singing up to the forum, don't read any rule, and drop a stupidity in the development forum or in the general discussion one. Idk maybe it's just me.

That looks good, but a glance over it shows this: "- Of course, because noone wants to wait for 400 days, the server time will be updated to the highest vessel-time when noone is on the server (and maybe all 3 hours even with players, then there would come a message around 20 mins. before the update like this: "Please be careful, there will be a time-update in 20 mins. and every vessel not saved at that time will be deleted!"), so you don't have to wait that long!"

So...I'm waiting for a launch window tomorrow, log off for an hour and it's suddenly 20 years ahead in ksp time because someone warped...

If time acceleration's a problem, why not : remove standard time warp, and add a 'warp drive' part which 'enables' the same warping, but with the following limitations :

1st : the warp drive sucks electricity

2nd : can't warp / Auto drop out of warp if another ship is in physics range (<2.5km) (because warp drives interfere with each other)

3rd : only your ship is accelerated (and placed 'on rails') - this will change how transfers are done of course.

as the other orbits won't be warped like before.

And 4th : because it's kerbals we are talking about, their warpdrives do not accelerate your ship : instead they slow down everything else :P

Because then that basically turns KSP into Eve online but without airplane flight and resources in space.

I merely made a statement to tell how we could have a time warp in multiplayer ksp, without it affecting the other players :)

It's true. Khyperia threw together a multiplayer prototype called Kestrel. It worked terribly (not to insult him at all, it's just a hard challenge) but it was technically working multiplayer.

You must bear in mind that Unity is made to write multiplayer games. This is far from impossible. It's just something that only someone with access to KSP's internals can do without going insane, and Squad has other priorities.

[EDIT] Here's the source code.

By the way, leaving aside technical issues of implementing multiplayer in KSP, there is another issue: gameplay.

What exactly do you what from multiplayer?

What multiplayer scenarios you imagine?

Multiplayer assumes there is some causes for players to interact: cooperation toward some shared goal, competition for resources, direct confrontation, etc.

Right now there is nothing in KSP that can offer anything other than "neutral coexistence in same region of space", which is not very inspiring if you ask me.

"Can technically" does not automaticly imply "can meaningfully" ;)

I will clarify my view:

I'am not totally against multiplayer in KSP.

But I think that threads like this are approaching problem from wrong aspect.

First you should envision gameplay and only THEN search for technical opportunities to implement it.

If you do opposite, you risk creating something that will be fun to use for nobody.

Yes, I can see it getting very inconvenient for launch windows.

I wish there was a way to let each person have their own map view and planet positions be unique to that player.

The map view would still tell you what players are at what planets, but the planets are in different positions for each player.

Then when you get into orbit, it then becomes a true shared map with limited warp and no warping on the surface.

Not perfect, but useable I think?

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
