How to have rotation and translation mode at once?

Im wondering if it is possible to have translation and rotation i docking mode at once, like WASD will be rotation and IJKL will be translation so i dont need to always switch between them

Use Staging Mode.

Exactly. The point of docking mode is to unify the commands (and to make it more real-life-like), if you don't like it you can actually dock in staging mode without any trouble.

Agreed. Switching back and forth just confuses me, and I end up doing the wrong thing because I forgot which I'm on.

There's also a checkbox to 'use staging controls in docking mode', not sure but I'm guessing it does exactly what it says on the tin. Haven't used it myself though.

Why would you need to switch "back and forth"? Just turn on asas for docking, there will be no need for rotation.

If target rotates just dock faster (using main engine for getting closer makes that quite easy). Or rotate the target n+/-.

There is no need for perfect rcs blocks placement with asas.

Unless you are docking stupidly large/wobbly vessel, asas does not use that much rcs fuel.
