My latest invention, a Gemini Titan II to rival the FASA Gemini mod. Released in preparation for possible release of OKB-1's new page devoted to American Rockets.:D

I won't go into too much detail about the craft, the Gemini right now is lacking an Agena Docking target but it's coming soon along with Mercury Redstone and Mercury Atlas

Launch Escape Sequence: Action Groups 1,2,3

Flight Preparation: Action Group 5

Thanks

Unfortunately OKB-1 couldn't muster an American Rockets page (mainly because I don't have the time to make up another rocket company)

Since there seems to be an interest, I'll post the Atlas Agena the second I can make the booster section a bit more convincing (Currently the 1.5 stage booster falls off in 4 separate parts 2 shrouds and 2 LVT-30 engines)

It's pretty successful considering that it can get to orbit under the power of the sustainer engine which is then de-orbited, I personally thought I was doomed since I couldn't replicate the unique pressurized hull of the real Atlas, which would crumple if it wasn't constantly pressurized with helium or fuel

Might as well post mercury too

I missed this thread! Great minds think alike! The atlas in particular was a real challenge for me to get looking right and functional at the same time... I also discovered that my mercury atlas was too weak to lift my agena so I recommend you start with agena then swap it for a pod!

As ever your part count is much more sensible than mine :)

Thanks Mulbin,

I haven't had so much trouble with the Atlas since I'm working at a different scale I can lift the Agena which in my rendition is pretty much a stick-o-boom with some basic flight systems

It just doesn't look very good, it lacks sophistication and as a result it's uninteresting. But then again it was the USA's first manned spaceflight system.

Maybe I'll go on to make a Saturn V for laptop users like myself, while trying not to sacrifice the aesthetics of the Munbug but right now I'm building a stock SKYLON

In fact my efforts are all over the map:) so I'm maybe not so productive presently

Nice

In case you were wondering the parachute is the Mk16 Stock chute which I flipped upside down and clipped inside the top of the capsule, I did it that way so that the parachute would fit under the launch escape system:)

Edit:

Also I designed it so that the Launch escape tower was jettison able whenever you like during the second stage burn. After the 2 stage is lit you can just press space once and it will get rid of the launch escape system

I'm pretty old school about it so I don't use the action groups for anything more then saving the crew and launch preparation

Also I use action group 1 instead of abort because usually I find that I need a "hair trigger" abort system cause usually by the time I've done the regular abort sequence the Kerbals are already dead

Ah no biggy.. Still liked it was a joy to fly around with a use. I figured out the parachute later. :)

Also Just curios you double stacked rockets right? Surprised that actually works. :)

Yep I double stacked all the 1st and second stage engines with an LVT-30 and an LVT-45, anything's possible with parts clipping, some SSTO builders use the same trick so that they don't have to build complex engine arrangements and can just have the rocket engine inside the atmospheric jet engines (I've experimented with this recently)

btw this craft is fine in 0.21
