Can you design a rover in the SPH and transfer it to the VAB?

Recommended Posts

Simple question: Is it possible to design a rover (or something similar) in the SPH, to take advantage of the symmetry tools, and then port it to the VAB when finished?

Thanks!

Once you have the rover made open KSP's main folder (most likely KSP_win) and then go to the saves folder and look in the SPH folder for your rover's .craft file (rovername.craft) and they copy that .craft file to the VAB folder which is also in saves. Then you just load your rover up like you would any craft.

You should also open the file with notepad and change the third line to "type = VAB"

You don't even have to edit the craft file. Just open your KSP install folder, go to ships, then SPH folder and look for your craft, right click, copy. Go back into the main install folder and go to ships, and then into VAB folder, now right click and paste.

You don't have to, but it helps.

For instance if you just copy the file, then when you launch the craft the end flight dialogue will have the option to return to SPH rather than VAB. Also when editing you may notice if you try to reposition a part you may notice it flipping over 90 degrees to the SPH orientaion when you remove it from the rest of the craft. Can be a nightmare with those finicky 6 way nodes.
