Large structure/solid connection problems?

Recommended Posts

I was trying to use the I-beams and the "Not-Rockomax Micronodes" (for their multiple connection points) to build a larger structure. While in the fab, it looks like all the points are connected well:

However, as soon as the physics engine kicks in, it just falls apart, missed connections all over the place:

Is there a problem with the multiple-attachment point parts? Or is it just that initial "jolt" when the physics enable that's breaking pieces?

Any suggestions for building larger frames without a boat-load of struts?

Unfortunately due to the current parent-sibling nature of craft construction, nothing can have more than one point of attachment (during construction), which all flows down from the root part

Best bet might be to make the central node the root part and radiate out from there keeping the single attachment in mind, and making up the difference with struts between the different radiated sections

Connection loops are impossible. It works like this: Parent->Child->Child... . You end up with a tree-like structure. Once a part is in place, it cannot be connected back to another part of the craft.

Struts connect at 2 points so the parent > child thing obviously doesn't apply. Use struts to connect the loose ends together. Which brings up the question...

Why can't there be structural parts, trusses, beams, etc., that work like struts?
