Will planted flags change if I change the main flag?

Quick question: if I switch e.g. from a Mun mission flag to a Minmus mission flag, will the flag I planted on the Mun show the new flag, or keep the old flag?

Also, a meta-question: would it be a good idea to have a main "quick questions" thread? It would be more convenient than making a new thread for every question that can be answered with a single post. It works pretty well on the Paradox forums.

You don't need to change the main flag, when making a spaceship you can choos mission flag , and no, the flags doesen't change.

I wasn't aware flags were saved on a per-ship basis...that presents a problem, because I changed the main flag, but when I plant a flag it's still using my old one. How do I change the ship's mission flag while it's already on the Mun? I'm not averse to file editing.

Having checked out the file, it seems every part on the ship remembers what its mission flag is supposed to be. I would guess that the flag Kerbals plant depends on the flag remembered by the command pod they left. If so, you could dock and separate two ships while retaining their respective flags.

I'm not sure what the point of your ship's thermometer or engine having a mission flag specified is, though.

The vessel stores the name of which flag file was active when it was first launched. Change the flag in the space center and you change the flag that will be attached to each flight thereafter that you start, NOT the flags for vessels that were previously launched. (Note it only stores the filename not the image data so if you remove the file later the old flags using the image retroactively get wiped clean.)

When a kerbalnaut exits a vessel, the kerbalnaut inherits the flag filename from the parent vessel, so when it plants the flag it's the flag that the vessel it left from had.

I don't know what happens if you EVA a kerbal from ship 1, walk to ship 2, and enter ship 2, then leave ship 2 and plant a flag. Will it be the flag of ship 1 or the flag of ship 2? I haven't experimented to find out.

flags are loaded into a ship on launch, changing the flag after you launch a mission but before you plant the flag will cause the previous flag to be planted, which makes sense.

Where'd the Kerbals on board get new flags halfway between Kerbin and say Duna?

The issue I had with flags, it always uses the default flag unless you change the default flag in the Space Center window.

Every ship you launch, uses that default flag.

And I really wish Squad could make it where it will remember what flag you choose for that ship, instead of using the default flag.
