The donut tanks stack like that normally, you can see the same thing on my lander.

That's a stock part, but if you're using any more than 8 you'd be better off with the conventional tanks. The small round-8 and oscar-B tanks have worse mass fractions than the larger tanks.

I've considered using seperatrons for lift for a micro lander. At work, can't really test now. What do you guys think? I'm sure it'd be harder to hit specific orbits.

I thought of that myself actually, to an extent i think they could defiantly work

Seperatrons are surprisingly heavy, but properly staged I think you could make it work.

I have a plan. Tonight, I try to make the run, stock, and clock in at just under two tons.

@3500. I planned for an LKO start but cheated a bit by using my second stage to get to a 400km orbit. Technically I could do it with that lander but I like a certain margin of error and the lander is a bit off-balance so you have to constantly adjust during a burn.

I've gone back to the drawing board to rebalance and try some extra configurations.

I presume weight means the weight of the lander only and not the launch stage as well?

If you used part of the lander's fuel to get to orbit, do you count the mass in orbit?

Yeah its just the lander weight

I have just realise how stupid we have been! we have completely overlooked a really simple design and we have made our landers way to complicated

If you're not counting the mass of what you use to get into orbit, then mine clocked in at 0.55 tons after separating the jet stage. I was originally quoting mass on the launch pad.

Just another clarification question: is it alright to get a Munar intercept via the launch stage? Because it's not exactly hard to get an intercept while your overall altitude over Kerbin is sub-100KM.

nope, sorry but you have to use the lander only from 100km orbit
