New pc!

Hey Everyone just very excited about a new pc I built today! Not specifically for KSP. It's actually built for extreme simulation and modeling programs. So far just got all the drivers set up and my gawd this thing is insanely fast. Also I haven't ever quite seen a BIOS screen as spectacular as the GIGABYTE. Impressive.

Specs are:

CPU: Intel Core i7 4770k 3.5GHZ with overclocking

RAM: DDR3 2400 32GB

Video Card: Nvidia Quadro K4000

MoBo: GIGABYTE G1.Sniper 5

SDD: Samsung 840 256GB

HDD: 3TB Toshiba

Although this is intended for my work, KSP is downloading now. Can't wait to see what kind of massive ships I can run! (Is it sad that KSP is the first exe I install before even my work programs?) I am literally jumping out of my chair with excitement!!

Monitor is just an LG 27" HDMI but let me say I've never had a monitor this big and seeing KSP on it REALLY changes gameplay it makes it seem like you're in space!!

The setup shipped was $2,850, not including the new monitor I bought. That also includes a new tower because the G1 mobo is huge. I just built a simple craft and put it in orbit. All mainsails. Did not skip a beat once! All the graphics settings are maxed and it is in full screen mode. I'm going to crash the ship now and see how it handles a big explosion!! From the feel of it this system is awwww just love it!! OK found that FSX display! (Hmmm, doesn't show the frame rate in game) I'll do a few explosions and report back!

EDIT: Just crashed 8 orange tanks with mainsails at about 600m/s vertical drop full throttle and you know how (with other pc's) right before an explosion, the game will pause (even if it's just a little) BUT it did not pause, nor did it slow down, or anything! I'm going to bed now, but I will bring my save file over with my much larger ships and stations and we'll see what kind of performance I can get!

It sounds EPIC!

But $3000 is a wee bit TOO much money for me.

Thats probably because of the graphics card, that card costs 750 dollars.

OP, may i ask what you are planning to do with that graphics card?

Edit: nvm i didn't see you used it for modeling

Yes modeling and simulation. Running finite element analysis on entire assemblies, thermal analysis, all while the assembly is in motion. Or simulating assemblies while fully rendered. Takes a computer that can really, REALLY handle it. I've been using a standard desktop for a while, and finally got sick of it taking 15 minutes to run a simulation.

And as far as cost, yes the components are top of the line, but there are many options just below what I have and you save $100 here, $100 there. Ex: all that ram is $300. Maybe you only want 16GB. Saves $150. Maybe you don't care about the SSD? Take another $250 off the price. And since you don't want 32GB of ram, you can go for a smaller MoBo, saving you even more $$. etc, etc. I can tell you though so far I haven't regretted spending the money one bit!!

so i know that card isnt built for gaming and ksp uses cpu as much as gpu on hard rendering can the card be used as like a sub cpu to help with processing so in theory it preforms just as well asa gaming card on ksp but its all a guess ive only used gaming cards

You're running Solidworks, aren't you? My work wants those cards, but too expensive. They run GTX cards instead with RealHack. Though the reliability is a bit... meh.

Yes, running SolidWorks! Yep, the card is expensive but worth it!

And Moxzot I'm no computer expert, but I think you're on the right track there.

And cesarcurado that sounds exactly like my tower I just replaced! except it had an old GSO 9600 haha. Still a decent machine just can't handle what I need.
