Super- (And Pre-) Fetch

OMG, I'm searching in Google about Superfetch, and tons of articles showed up, some saying Superfetch as a piece of junk. I have to experiment myself:

Test Result (Test 1):

Internet Explorer startup: 1.5 seconds with Superfetch on/2 seconds with Superfetch off

The Sims 3 Launcher: 19 seconds with Superfetch on/21.5 seconds with Superfetch off

Okay, so apparently with Superfetch on the applications run faster... on older computers. Mine is not very old, however (only 2 years).

Perhaps Superfetch "learned" since the beginning? Why did some computer "experts" said that Superfetch is useless? What really is about Superfetch (and Prefetch)?

And please don't turn this into an argument.

Well i tried quite a few kinds of booster programs on various computers i had, and found out that they just doesnt work, or if they actualy work the difference is so small that its not even worth the time i invested to download and install them.

Even found malvare in some of them.

Your tests have 1 flaw though; the 2nd time you run a program part of it is still in memory, so it loads faster.

Whoops. I'll do a restart (takes at least 2 restarts). Since The Sims 3 was ran when Superfetch is probably disabled, I would probably just disable Superfetch for the first test on IE, and reboot and turn it on on the second test.

UPDATE: I decided to run with Superfetch delayed and with Superfetch on immediately. With Superfetch launched later, the startup took about 85 seconds. With Superfetch launched as part of the start up, the startup took about 61 seconds.

Also, just ran the tests with IE and the Sims 3 Launcher.

Internet Explorer startup: 1.5 seconds with Superfetch on/2 seconds with Superfetch off

The Sims 3 Launcher: 19 seconds with Superfetch on/21.5 seconds with Superfetch off

It took 3 startups, due to 1 startup in which the Sims 3 launcher failed to launch normally...
