Successes, Failures, Questions

Hi there,

got KSP yesterday on a Steam Sale.

I am very happy I picked it up, I am loving it. Reminds me of Orbiter way back - but I like it more.

Have done a few initial things, including getting one Kerbal on to the surface of the Mun (and back safely). Mind you, not on the first try. But eventually...

Just finished a heavy launch vehicle (asparagus staging), that can get quite heavy loads into orbit.

Also experimented with outer planetary intercepts/transfers, but I am not quite patient enough waiting for the correct launch windows... which means it hasn't worked out yet. ;)

Okay, onto the failures/questions:

  1. I just tried installing MechJeb (mostly for the additional information, not the autopiloting). But it isn't showing up. I put everything into the respective folders in the KSP directory ("/steamapps/common/Kerbal Space Program"; the *.dll into the /Plugins/ folder and the other 3 files are now found in /Parts/MechJeb2_AR202/). Is there anything else I have to do? Because I am not seeing any change so far. How do I access its functionality?
  2. To get it working, I even started a new game (just in case, but it didn't help). Doing that I found out that my saved designs apparently don't carry over, why not?
  3. Can I somehow paste together two partial designs? I'd like to save my launcher designs separately from my payload designs, so I can mix and match. Is that possible?
  4. I read that the next patch will break savegame compatibility. Will that happen more often, or is it a rare occurence?
  5. Do the developers plan to put in more stock parts in the future? Or is that only via mods? (what happens with parts from mods when the game is patched; does that break savegames?)
  6. Is there an ETA for new drag/atmospheric physics during launch of rockets?

I'll probably think of more questions later.

Thanks in advance.

1: You've got an old version. ALL mods now just get saved in the Kerbal Space Program/Gamedata folder, in their own subfolder. Hunt around for MechJeb 2.08... I believe that's the latest. Make sure all mods specify they're .20 or .20.2 compatible.

2: Saved designs are per/game. but they can be pulled out of that folder and inserted into the new game, or any game.

3. There's a mod for that. "Subassembly ----" Loader or Manager. One is an old version, one the new. I forget which is which, sorry. I don't use it, myself. I should. ;)

4. It will happen regularly. This game is in ALPHA development, not even Beta, yet. It is fairly rare, but it WILL HAPPEN. get used to it. :/

5. Yes, they will (probably), part count available has increased in the past. In fact, they frequently add parts and ideas that used to be mods. Mods may or may not be compatible right away. Expect to play modless for a few days to a few weeks after .21, until mods get updated to be compatible. Bets place to watch for that is the forums, not the Spaceport.

6. No clue. Also, asking about release dates for anything is one of the big No-Nos here. :)

Even in this early Alpha, bugs and all, KSP is a load of fun. Enjoy!

Loader is the original, Manager is the one that is currently supported and available without jumping through hoops.

What amazes me is this game is "alpha" but it has less bugs and glitches then most games RELEASED today lol, its rather sad what the gaming industry has come too. Squad and other like minded developers give me hope and is the reason I've prushased this game 3 times lol.

Sorry for the hijack lol.
