Thunderbird
Hi,since i seem to be absolutely incapable of figuring out how to balance my rockets, i thought ill ask you guys to explain it to me real simple =PI thought i will redo my 'Farseer' design from scratch, seemed like a good idea since the first one performed almost flawlessly, i just wanted to make it again with better parts, hopefully increasing its range....'Farseer Beta' (nameless screenshot) seems absolutely impossible to balance, i guess i shot myself in the foot with the part weight differences or something, i just cant, for the love of the mighty Kerbalord, figure out just how to fix it... I tried all sorts of crazy stuff with wings and control surfaces, doesnt seem to help, the ship starts tilting to the side (usually to the right) pretty much the second it clears the launch tower, RCS doesnt help either. I had a much heavier fuel tank initially in place of the orange one, i thought maybe its top-heavy so i replaced the 4x heavier with this one, pretty much no effect.Im including screenshots of both ships, first one is the one that works. Thanks in advance for advice Farseer-Enigma.png:screenshot19.png:

Kryten
Is might be a thrust issue-I\'ve noticed that rockets tend to move sideways more the lower the T/W ratio is; e.g. on lower throttle settings. How is the staging arranged? If it\'s just those 1m challenger engines in the first stage, then it\'s definitely the thrust.
Thunderbird
just the 6x 1m engines on the long tanks in the first stage....so basically.... MOAR BOOSTERS?crap,my FPS will go from 1 to 0.5 then....it didnt move sideways though... just started tilting to the side as if it had a 20-ton weight attached to the side of it
Kryten
Sideways force almost certainly=tilting, if not very deliberately done around the centre of mass.It might need less boosters-that whole first stage looks to be completely superfluous. Thunderbird
sadly, its not... the orange tank and up is all dead weight until orbit... second stage is to get through uppermost layers of atmo and gain orbit path, it worked on the first one, doesnt work on the second oneand the bastard is HEAVY.... i initially thought that the rocket is simply stalling and losing stability because of itedit: tested, its neither actually... the first stage only starts lifting the thing when its 80%+when i teamed up the 2nd stage engine to 1st stage to test it, i had no changesolution: the center of mass was too high actually.... the rocket was too top-heavy... i guess first version had shorter 1st stage tanks and that was it
