End Flight Questions

So I've been reading about people generally saying that clicking End Flight is bad news. But I'm not clear why. I have several flights now that are listed as "crashed" or "landed" (yay me!) and I can't imagine why I would want these listed in my flight list. Shouldn't I just end these? What about other test flights? I have a handful of space debris on decaying orbits that I can't for the life of me figure out why I would want to not End.

Or have I missed the point and I'm not far enough along yet. That the only issue with End Flight is when you have multiple flights taking part in some activity that needs to connect in space? If I deploy something with a flight, and I click End Flight, will everything in that deployment disappear? Or just the parts that have touched down?

End Flight causes all of the CURRENT ship to vanish. Note that ejected stages immediately become either separate craft ( if they have a pod or core) or debris, and will not be affected by it.

"End Flight" is considered evil because it's cost almost EVERYONE a ship, a probe, a Space Station, or the like. If you use it on your space station, your station, and everything docked to it, is GONE. Period. SO you can see how it got an evil reputation...

very VERY early on in my game play i accidentally launched my second flight out of Kerbin's SOI and then decided to EVA. I don't read manuals. or do tutorials especially youtube ones. i quickly found my kerbal drifting further and further from the pod. I decided to launch a rescue mission.

while putting it together i noticed the Kerbal was missing. I assumed maybe he got toonfar from the pod and I couldnt teack him. Or maybe captured by Eve as he and the pod were on a hyperbolic trajectory taht crossed Eve. (i didnt understand how these things work or about rails...)

two missions, a probe and a fast rescue ship failed to find him. I installed Crew Manifest to see if i could figure anything out with that. i figure now that i accidentally did an end flight on him not knowing what it did. I spent a real time WEEK lookimg for him. very frustrating

So do you go into Tracking Station M and clean up all your old landed flights by hitting Abort? or Fly then End Flight? Is there any way to retrieve them? I have several "splashed down" probes littering my ocean.

What about space junk? Orbital stuff? Do you just leave it up there till it falls or do you abort / End Flight on it?

I'd love an End Flight button on the Tracking Station for each flight. Rather than having to go into the flight then hitting End Flight.

Is Abort and End Flight the same thing?

Yeah, pretty much. Right?..

Retrieval of splashed-down/landed parts will probably be part of career mode. So, eventually, yes. There is no significant reason to worry about what happens to them right now. Once landed, end the flight so you get the crew back. :)
