I made a backup of my file, and took a few shots at it myself, kept come up just a little short. So I cleaned up my persistence file to avoid you seeing some of my embarrassing craft, and I'm posting it here to let others take a go at it. For me, I'm restoring the backup and sending a rescue craft with fuel, and several big O2 tanks.

Sounds interesting. I would guess that since you're in an elliptical orbit already it takes less than 1500 m/s delta-v to get to Kerbin.

What's AEIS? Couldn't find it.

AEIS is basically an alternative to KW Rocketry. Personally I haven't used it, but have heard good things. It can be found here

Well I've tried many combinations of maneuver nodes, but I can't do anything under 1650 m/s with a Kerbin intercept in 83 days. If the Kerbin intercept is allowed to be 90 days then it goes down to like 1400 m/s. Maybe... one of the Kerbals could sacrifice themselves to give the others more oxygen time?

Ok having some trouble loading this up, there's a part that I'm missing:

RLA.rcs.5way

Guessing from the name it's an RCS part but it's not present in any mods I have loaded up and I installed all the ones I was missing from your list. Unless I grabbed an older version ...

First challenge is getting the needed mods! I seem to be missing the following...

* cl.large.batteryPack

* cl.large.shortMonoTank

I don't think they are in any of the listed mods, including Stockalike.

is jebediah supposed to be dead???? or was i supposed to be paying attention to other kerbals? Cuz ahm seeing a bunch of dead kerbals ob the roster

I'm not sure what you mean, Jeb was never on that craft. I think I sent Jeb to Jool

Ok, so mods are sorted. I have come to the conclusion that getting them back on their own power is a no go. Not even if you use up all the RCS. The physics is against them. They are in a real pickle alright!

Good news is I put a craft in LKO, then with a maneuver node worked out an intercept for 46 days with only 1600 m/s. Though it's too late this evening for me to actually follow through.... will do later. I'm not familiar with the IonCross mod, but I think this will be a neat way to learn about it.

good job! you beat me to it.

I was putting together a fast rescue mission but I had to go to bed. I actually had two going, one in possible support of the other. One a fast rescue ship with three nuclear propulsion pods, a variation on an old design I've used and the other a robot tanker. Both filled to busting with life saving oxygen and CO2 scrubbers.

the manned mission didn't have the DV (according to MJ's planning screen) for the maneuver I was planning and I couldnt figure out why until it hit me over coffee this morning that the drop tanks I was mounting had no line feeds. I was just loading up KSP now to fix it and go save them when I saw your message. Well, what counts is the Kerbals are saved!

YAY!!!! Rescue. That's the option I finnally went for myself. Havn't made it yet, had to go to bed, but it's in enroute. I sent a robotic ship with big tanks of O2 and fuel.

When I posted the first thread I didn't think even think of sending a rescue, just getting the first ship home. So thanks everyone that contributed.

@moon goddess. I see only two flights, one flag on minmus (didnt realize those counted as flights. I've been putting them up everywhere in my favorite save) and the Eve mission. No jool ships and the Crew Manifest plugin reports something like 5 dead Kerbals

I edited the file I uploaded, ended flight on all my craft except the one I was asking about, partly out of embarrassment as my ugly ships and partly out of preventing incompatablities with all my various other mods I have installed. I didn't even realize there was a flag left, must have missed it. So halfway to Jool is Kiwi 1 but you can't see it on the save I gave you, Jeb is on there. As for the dead Kerbals... well things happen...

ok so even though this is reported solved I've been still trying to finish this on my side and had sone bugs force me to restart twice... but still plugging at it and I'm noting some peculiarities with Ioncross I'm not liking.

Rescue 1 is enroute and I almost lost them because they nearly DIED to CO2 poisoning... in fact I had to F9 them out of it. Ironic really that the rescue ship equipped to handle not only the support needs of its crew AND the crew of the Plum is having support issues. The issue is that it is generating CO2 faster than the ship it's rescuing. Does it have twice the crew? no. but it does have twice as many livable areas. one is empty so I can transfer the crew of the stranded ship. but even empty it generates CO2. I'll submit it to ioncross dev as a bug if it's not known...

sucks though because I've been wanting to try that mod and this was perfect chance

Good work metaphor! I tried all sorts of maneuver nodes but could not get under the dV *and* time budget.

Anyhows... my rescue mission is now complete, and done in style.

If it's just ironcross, as long as the scrubbers are on and you have power, you should be ok.

Speaking of which, Moon Goddess, in the other thread about this, you said something about how you'd modified the ironcross thing so that you have eight hours of EVA time, and Kerbals can draw this from the ship's oxygen. Is this done with a plug in you can share, or something that others can replicate?

Though it almost killed your kerbals this time, that sounds like realism I'd love to have also.
