I really enjoyed your tutorial! You have a really patient way of explaining things. I've had KSP for quite awhile but I still feel like a noob. I hope you plan on explaining more complicated things soon, like "properly" establishing an orbit and gravity turns and all that.

You got it all wrong, Pressing S will make your spacecraft point up more. Just like a real aircraft where if you push down on your joystick it goes up.

S brings your marker up on the navball (up) and w puts it down, it's just like flying a plane irl (except with a keyboard). And unless you have inverted controls, pushing the joystick forward should bring the marker down.
