Stevincent
I am currently working on a mod, and I'm sort of at a stand still. I have posted this question my mod thread and I am about done with my J-2X and I haven't received a response so I'm going to ask the question here.Ok so there is a delta cryogenic stage, and on the Nasa site it seems they used the 5M version of it when it looks like it should really be the 4m version which will be used in the first two missions. So if thats the case fine, I can see how the 4M version will work with the 70T Block I Crew version. But for the 105 and 130T versions they are supposed to be using a Large cryogenic stage. I cant find too much information on this, wikipedia has it at 5M and thats what I have been able to find online. I just am not sure how it fits into what they have shown in the diagram is the entire stage housed inside a covering and those are jettisoned? I havent been able to find anything on this. So if anyone could point me in the right direction it would be very much appreciated. Also the upper stage of the 130T version has 3 J-2X engines now? Is that correct? Well thanks guys for the help.I superimposed some of my reference images onto the it and I guess it makes sense what do you think? This is for the 5M cryo stage. I dont know it still seems wrong for the entire stage to be inside like that.
BostLabs
Whew! Well I'm no rocket scientist but maybe the payload determines that? I mean if, and that is a big if, the payload is carrying something heavy, like a huge power source, it may need the more umph of the larger unit to get in proper obit.I pulled that out of my butt so it could be way out there. Interesting topic though.
antiquark
From teh google, that "bulging" second stage contains a shrouded payload. Not sure what that really means, maybe there will be an extra module stored in there (lunar module?), but there doesn't seem to be much room. I'll look a bit more... antiquark
Also, regarding the two vs three J2x engines, I've heard that they're still studying the alternatives, and haven't decided on the number yet.

I will probably model a 2x and 3x version of the J2X stage.I just finished modeling the J2X here is the high poly version for those who are interested. CalculusWarrior
Looks beautiful! I've attempted creating a stock SLS before, and I'll be interested in seeing how this turns out!My thoughts on the upper stage: that empty space could be used for cargo, or perhaps extra fuel if NASA wants to send an Orion to Mars. dougssimpson
Stevincent, was wondering if you had finished modeling the SLS BLock II. Need to use it for my senior design (mission to Europa)
Master Tao
You're more likely to find that answer in the [thread=41246]mod's development thread here[/thread]. Since the original purpose for this thread has long passed, I'm closing it.
