Multiple fuel tanks?

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

I just got the game today and downloaded some various plug ins and premade ships. One of them has multiple fuel tanks but for whatever reason I can't figure out how to switch fuel tanks once the primary one the thruster is on is used up. I might be missing something really simple or doing something stupid, but any help would be greatly appreciated!

It's done automatically - once the farthest fuel tank is used up, it goes to the next one, and when it runs out of fuel the engines stop. Then you probably hit space to activate the next stage, jettisoning empty tanks and activating more engines with their own fuel tanks, and so on. When there's no fuel left, well, that's it :P

Most parts can carry fuel (look for "Fuel-crossfeed capable") but notable exceptions are decouplers (to avoid having your lower stage eat up all your upper stage's fuel). You can use the fuel duct part to have more control over how fuel is transferred.

If you can post a screenshot of the ship in question we can see what it's supposed to do once the first fuel tank is empty.

You may be relying on the staging bar on the side, remember that the fuel values there are cumulative and are of all the fuel connected to that tank. You can check the amount of fuel in the tanks by right clicking them while flying.

Hm - I would say "do not do that" - try to build your own rockets first - even starting out with small ones.

Look at the crafts you downloaded - and here too the smaller ones first - and try to understand what was done why in the design.

This is not really a game you can download a new shiny car for and start cruising the neighbourhood, it helps tremendously to understand whats going on under the hood. ;)
