VTOL Hopper Challenge

Come one, come all, test your skills to see if you can be the ultimate VTOL pilot. To finish you'll need to combine nerves of steel with some of the best piloting skills this side of Kerbol. To win, you'll need to add in quickness that would make a Kheetah seem like a Knail.

Your challenge, is to design and fly a VTOL that starts on the runway, hops to the roofs of all 5 major KSC buildings, and finally finishes on the launchpad. Fastest time wins.

The rules are simple:

• Start your craft on the Runway
  
• You must land on the VAB, SPH, Training Complex, Tracking Station (Main building), and Unnamed Building
  
• You may land on the buildings in any order you choose
  
• Come to a rest (0.0 m/s velocity) on the roof of each building.
  
• You must finish by landing on the Launchpad, The timer stops when you reach 0.0 m/s
  
• You may not touch the ground at any time
  
• 100% Stock vehicle
  
• Must be Kerbal piloted
  
• 2 Categories, Plane and FFA:
  
  • Plane must use jets only, may not use parachutes to assist with landing, and must be single stage
    
  • FFA Can use jets/rockets/SRBs, may use parachutes to assist with landing, and may stage.

  • Shot of vehicle at start on Runway with timer visible
    
  • Shot of vehicle landed on each roof with timer visible
    
  • Shot of vehicle landed on Launchpad at finish with timer visible
    
  • Anything else you want to show
    
  • Video recording will of course be accepted as alternative to screenshots.
    

A few tips for VTOL planes:

• Angle your VTOL engine slightly
  
• Adjust your pitch to control the rate at which you bleed vertical/horizontal velocity.
  
• Balance, balance, balance!
  
• Wheels make good shock absorbers, be sure you can reach them for a quick repair.
  
• Train your landing/takeoff skills by practicing landing in water.
