700!

The challenge here is to basically make the SR-71 Blackbird in ksp.

The rules are:

you have to make a PLANE NOT ROCKET!!!!

It can use the rocket engines, but it has to take off like a plane.

Landing is not required (plus, who needs to land anyway?)

Normal mode is getting to 700 m/s within 5 minutes from takeoff, cheats are allowed.

hard mode is getting to 700 m/s within 1 minute from takeoff, no cheats.

And it has to be stock parts only.

Post a screenshot of your plane at max speed, and tell me the time you started, and when you get to 700 m/s.

Most of my SSTOs break 1000 by five minutes.

Actually, most SSTOs would do this, period. With rocket thrust added, might even break 700 in two to three minutes. But not one - drag too high at low altitude, and climbing takes time.

I reached 800 in 27 seconds and still 0.5 seconds of mega accelleration available! see delta v I ended up close to 900, but timing the screenshot is difficult

It flies very stable and can even land back. But don't expect much range though

If you stick multiple of these solid rockets together to divide the weight of the wings, you can go even faster...

With 3 rockets and straight up, I got to 1372 m/s in 30 seconds At this altitude you get a lot of gliding range as well, making it actually a usefull plane to go somewhere

Looks like even Jeb can get scared sometimes..

The topspeed was something around 900m/s, it went by too quick for me to make a screenshot. 42 seconds till 700m/s though..

Almost even managed to land that thing, but Jeb fell off and vanished.

well i thought the hard mode would be hard and after messing around with sled designs and falling alot i moved onto The 700

i met the challenge in 51 seconds and then kept going to the full minute but i began to flat spin at 59 seconds bloody flame out

so i took this challenge to its reductio ad absurdum and challenged my self to get to orbit the fastest posable time with an ssto space plain and only took 4:22 in a craft that only Jeb was able to fly
