Put Scott Manley on Wikipedia - A Community Project

Hello there :)

We can safely assume that Wikipedia does not want the current content there - and, given that this hit Speedy Deletion, probably nothing of the sort at all. I would strongly recommend planning ahead, if anyone does want to put an article there.

That said, I've done some cleanup here in this thread, as this was going down the road of outright offensive. Stay nice, people. We can all post opinions on this without being condescending.

Yeah, that's not going to fly with the Wikipedia editors. Want to help? Get an article published about Scott Manley in a mainstream publication.

This comes pretty close to meeting the notability guidelines:

Have you got promotion form Scott to do a personal information collection page about him? I think you better ask him before it can go wrong! (I tell this as a help)

What? the page on Wikipedia was deleted! :0.0:

An article on the KSP would be much better. :)

Seriously, he's not that popular.

You know, I work around the corner from the Wikimedia offices, I don't want to be annoying the neighbours :)

I don't honestly think that I'm hugely notable at this time, I mean outside of youtube I have a few minor claims to fame, but time will tell whether the world at large cares enough to make a page worthwhile.

Actually if you're going to go an edit Wikipedia, I believe the KSP page needs a bit of cleaning up.

Like hell. I was here first.

(Before we had YouTube "celebrities.")

But you joined 2 months after me.

Seriously, you're not the only person that thinks I'm overrated, I, happen to think that I'm somewhat overrated, but people keep telling me otherwise and I do my best to live up to their expectations.

Am I the only person (besides the wiki mods, obviously) who thinks this guy is incredibly overrated? :P

So overrated that the comment I made was actually deleted by a moderator. I enjoy Scotts videos but in no way do I place him on any pedestal higher than you or I and this entire thread I find ludicrous.

Which puts things in perspective, it doesn't even have Nercubed or Hannah Hart, I'm a long way down the list (somewhere in the top 5000, a long way from the top 50).

True, but it wouldn't hurt to try to add your name to that list.

You have around 100k subscribers, and growing.

I say someone try and add it to the list.

Note: Known for numerous successes in Kerbal Space Program ;)

Well truth be told, people on wikipedia aren't necessarily on any kind of pedestal, it's not about being good, but being notable, and that includes hundreds of people who are notable for gross stupidity.

Yep, I would have to agree with you there. There sure is a lot of crap on Wiki.

Good to see you around Scott.

And yeah, probably best to not irritate the neighbors any more than necessary.

At this time, although he is popular, he still isn't someone significant in the right areas to really fit in an encyclopedia-like environment like Wikipedia. I'm not entirely surprised that it was quickly deleted.

And definitely, if people have the time to perform editing that meets Wikipedia's guidelines, please do see to it that KSP is given a lasting record on its page, and a memorable impression so that even when the game is too old for our computers to still play nobody here forgets what it was and how much fun we had playing it.

I know when that day comes I'll probably save the last machine I have that can still run it, just so that 20 years later I can make Jeb scream as I light all of the boosters at once.

Entirely by coincidence, I was looking at the Wikipedia article for Kerbal Space Program.

The game has notably crossed over into the scientific community with scientists and members of the space industry becoming obsessed with the game - including NASA[17] and Copenhagen Suborbitals[18]. Some have become active members of the community, for example, astronomer Scott Manley[19][specify] has become a celebrity in the world of Kerbal Space Program, using the game to bring science to gamers.

Mission Accomplished already?

Heh, fair point. Okay. Got me there.

Honestly, I don't really have a problem with you, or your videos - the few I've seen have been quite nice. It's your fandom, who will not shut up.

(I happen to be an occasional fan of Kurt, myself, but you don't see me talking him up in every post, or trying to get him canonized as the Saint of Lego Rocketry and 3D Glasses, or...)

Too many threads where someone inevitably invokes your name as if you were the One True Authority and the only person playing this game who matters. That's what I'm sick of.

Sorry that you have to deal with all that (and the expectations that come with) and the backlash.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
