Mission reports from my own Space Program

Thank you! I wanted the smaller RCS tank to mimic the Mercury capsules more closely. I played around for ages to find a way to have a shroud that looked authentic, instead of the inevitably smaller one that would come with using the smaller RCS pack. Then it hit me that Procedural Fairings could sole this for me! As I've learned since, I did not have to have the base attached to the pod as well as the top of the booster. Now I have a lot of debris floating around due to the four panels blowing off during separation - d'oh!! There is a way to leave the panels attached, which I am now doing. But I have been working on some new methods which looks good (in my opinion!) and I am immensely pleased with, but means a change of tactic. I will post about it here once I have finished testing.

In the meantime, there is another quick post on the next mission. Link in the sig.

Right, I'm a bit torn of what to do here. So I used Procedural Fairings in the previous launches so that the capsule with its small RCS pack would sit flush on top of my launch vehicle. Now, I need a full service module as I approach the Gemini-type missions. This is because of longer duration space flight (batteries, solar panels (unless I decide to use the fuel-cell mod), oxygen tanks from Ironcross and additional propellant). During building the SM, I had an idea strike me. The aesthetics are very important to me, and I'm not a fan of all the mix of modules with their different designs and colours. But then I realised I could cram in everything I need, and then use the PF panels to cover it all up much like real life. I got to work and I'm very happy with my effort:

So, the next thing to do is place this on top of my Launch-Vehicle. I played with PF again to give me a good stage adapter, which works beautifully. However, it all just looks so out of place on top of the stock rocket. So, I fully installed KW Rocketry (I last used this religiously 0.20 because I loved the look of the parts) and built a same-type rocket. Below are the results of KW vs Stock:

Anyway, I just wanted to share this as I am perhaps a bit too pleased with the way I have used PF to make my SM.

I'm running out of unique ways to say "Nicely done!"

...That being said, nicely done!

Haha! It's nice to know that someone is enjoying this.

OK, this last mission wraps up my 'Mercury' phase of it all. Although under the same project, the next step will be akin to the Gemini missions. There is no two-man pod for the stock game, and as tempting as it is to try out the FASA Gemini capsule, I have decided to carry on with the stock one-man pod. I'm kinda itching to get those Kerbals to the Mun now :)

I can understand that itch very well, myself :)

(Small note: 19 in Roman numerals should be "XIX." It follows the same rule as 14 (XIV) and similar numbers do. Yeah, it gets confusing when you have long chains of numbers like "1999" (MCMXCIX), which is part of why we switched to a positional notation system way back then in the first place :P ).

Yeah, I've been looking forward to Duna for a while!!

The dish is from Remotetech. Although, I have switched off the signal delay for the time being. I know it's realistic and all, but I find it more fun to do away with it. However, I do still like having to cater for signal paths and relays!

I'm using Ironcross, although I'm aware it hasn't been updated in a while. The only glitch I've found so far is the CO2 scrubbers don't work when switched to another ship, but the Kerbals continue to breath O2 and produce CO2. But it doesn't kill them, so I'm not overly worried.

I'm interested in the TAC life support, so I may use it for the Mun rocket!

OK, been out doing other things for a while. Starting to get back into this now, but I'm having trouble converting the saves from 0.22 to 0.23. There's an object conflict with a mod, and I just can't seem to work it out. Anyway, I may finish off this project in the old 0.22. In the mean time, I have a small back log of posts to catch up on.
