Mountain sticking out of atmosphere (Like Olympus Mons on Mars)

Recommended Posts

So, today I read somewhere that "Olympus Mons is so tall that it essentially sticks up out of Mars’s atmosphere."

The first thing I thought was that it would be awesome if there was a planet in KSP, with an atmosphere that has a mountain that sticks out of it. It would make a cool spot to land, wouldn't it?

It would have to be steep to avoid being OP, or you could just drive to space.

Take in mind that such a mountain would be quite large and it would take an awful long time to drive up such a mountain with a rover but still, driving into space sounds awesome :D

You'd still have to get into orbit, it would be slightly easier, depending on numerous factors.

I believe Nova plans to add a moon with mountains sticking out of its atmosphere around the Saturn analogue that's going to be added.

Awesome :D Do you have a source for that by any chance?

Uhhh. Why in the world would that be a problem? That would be just awesome, and rather gutsy, to make a mission where that was the planned method of returning (i.e. an ascent module that has too poor a TWR to get through the atmosphere but is good enough to get to orbit in the vacuum.)
