Orbit something using only Rockomax 24-77 engines.

Recommended Posts

When used in mass quantities, the Rockomax 24-77 engine is proving to the experimenters at Alan Aerospace Recycling & Packaging (AARP) to be both powerful and frugal with fuel.

Challenge: Using only the Rockomax 24-77 for main thrust, put *something* into orbit. Don't have to bring it back down. Use as many of the engine as it takes. How much further can this little engine go? To the Mun? The other planets? Show off your rocket building skills. :D

I just read the mission report of a single stage ship that went to the Mun and back *twice* without refueling, so at this point I'm ready to believe almost anything is possible in KSP.

more seriously, does this have to be single stage? otherwise i wouldn't be suprised if any target was possible. i may try a duna mission in this format - the next step in my space program anyway.

This is how we built the lightest SSTO craft before the 48-7S became stock: one 24-77, a tonne of fuel, the smallest pod, and you were good to go (you could even add a battery and solar panel). There was room left for more fuel tanks to make it easier, but minimum mass was the goal.

I wouldn't be surprised if this engine gets drastically cut back in power in the future. It's like being able to launch one of the old Soyuz rockets using only the 12 small engines and not installing the 20 large engines.
