I'm still here, just don't have anything to showcase.I'm trying to model a helmet to get an idea off my head, but I have no idea how to make a head helmet :(

Ah, is it for a kerbal, or for a human?

Also, here is this ball i made in blender.

23 minutes to render it.

After about 2 hours of work too....

So, i had a dream last night that; for one month. the KSP devs made short animation videos, showing what life would be like for a kerbal who lived in the city, and wasn't a kerbalnaut. They were about 15-30 seconds. But me, still doing kerbal animations I felt pressured to surpass them.

PS; if Danross, or any of the KSP devs in charge of media are watching this, I think it would be a cool animation series.

That's a really fun suggestion.

Got something to showcase at last

-snip-

Its ment to be a reflection to the helmet as a pilot going to a war

That's amazing... shame you're using crap-22's...

Sorry. :P I'm an F-15 fanboy... I think the F-22's were a total letdown, so many problems, can't fly in multiweather conditions... :( It is a great plane other then that.

If you're gonna have a relfection you should also be able to see his HUD, it'd add a cool-factor. Also, he should have some cool paint on his helmet. :D:P

.

I was tempted to write a story about a kerbal who just became a kerbalnaut, and left his proud family an life in the city, travelled to KSC, then died in a rocket crash. But I was merciful.

Hey, if you want, you could use nodes to mix a transparent shader, and a reflective shader; so you could have a Kerbal's face underneath it.

Finally Completed it!

That looks really good!

Bit of advice, you can select specific groups of faces, and set them to smooth shading (like for that sphere thingy at the bottom)

That's a really fun suggestion.

Yes, you guys should start working on that... Immediately (or not, i'm a animator, not a cop)

Oh, also. I re-rendered the ball.

it looks much better

I see a slight shading difference... nothing much though...

You're putting an awfully large amount of time into a ball... why not make something cooler...

Like an F-15 blowing a MiG-29 out of the sky?

Because, if i cannot create an awesome simple thing, how do i create an awesome complex thing?

That's not what I'm saying. If he steadily advances into more complex modeling he will get better, things will become more natural.

Modeling takes time, but you can't just keep doing easy things.

Also, I never said it was bad, I just said that I like awesomeness and explosions... :D

Well every fine artist goes back to the basics from time to time. It helps to refine ideas and techniques that can be used with the more complex things.

For example, that ball alone to FORTY MINUTES to render. That's a heck of a long wait just to see the results of your tweaking and toying. Imagine trying to do that with a massive project featuring said awesomeness and explosions.

I for one don't have the patience to wait two days to see if my lightning changes resulted in the enhancement I expected...

I know what you're saying, and I agree, but I can see from the picture that he has a lot of potential and could probably make something more... interesting... I mean, if the ball was instead a bomb with a lit fuse, which from what I can see in the picture that Rewdew has the capabilities to do that, it could be a lot cooler. :)

I know the ball is probably just for testing different settings and stuff, and it still looks really nice.

You should go back and look at some of the other stuff he's posted. He's already capable of doing more complex things. It's hardly as if a render of a dodgeball is the limit of his abilities... >_<

I'm trying to create some rough looking planets in 3ds Max by applying the Displace Mesh modifier to a sphere, but I'm having some issues right now. The planet looks great in the viewport, but when I render it I end up with this hideous blob.

zApEmlX.jpg

Does anybody have any idea of what could be causing this? This is what the parameters look like, if it's any help.

Yes, I am a complete noob at 3d modeling.
