Craft not controllable after undocking

Recommended Posts

I have a quite strange problem with my shuttle craft I use to transfer Kerbal fomr the ground to my orbit space staion (or other vessels)

Flying the shuttle into orbit and docking to the target works, so I can make a crew transfer (using CrewManifest). When I then undock, the shuttle cannot be controlled. Firing the main engines work and move the craft. But the RCS have no effect anymore. They fire, but the shuttle does not turn or move anymore.

The docking takes place with the yellow marked port below:

I don't have this issue with other vehicles, so I am a bit clueless what might cause this.

Does the shuttle have a probe core on it? If so, did it run out of electricity? Without Kerbals in the cockpit to pilot the shuttle, you need a probe core to actually control the craft.

There was a Kerbal in it, electricity was >4000 (I learned the eletricity story bad enough on the dark side of Mun......)

However, it gets even stranger now. I have send up an emergency capsule to dock with the shuttle and rescue the pilot. After I undocked the emergency capsule, the shuttle was controllable again ?!?!!?

I repeated this several times, and right now the shuttle is back on its way down as it was planned. So it looks as if the first docking&undocking at the station "blocked" something that prevented control of the shuttle. After another docking, it worked again.

Well he can control the engines and fire the rcs so I don't think that's it.

I notice you have sas and rcs control. could it be that you're out of power and without sas helping the rcs can't produce any noticeable rotation?

There was enough electrical power left, and the issue resolved after docking and undocking another capsule to the shuttle.

Right now Obsel has landed safely and will have some discussions with the guys back in the VAB why his craft was not controllable anymore...

Perhaps you enabled precision control with capslock? As of 0.21 precision control mode will balance the thrust of RCS jets. Then when the rescue craft docked to the shuttle the precision mode was turned off, thereby reenabling the RCS thrusters.

  • 1 year later...

I've the same issue, loads of elec and monoprop and a scientist in a MkI lander can. (no liquid fuel but I've only monoprop engines) this station+hopper has already explored the Mun so I know it works, but now in Minmus orbit whenever I undock from the station its uncontrollable. The yaw and picth meters respond when i hit the keys so its not a keyboard issue.

version:1.0.4

Help!
