Best way to rescue astronauts trapped in space

I made a booboo and now they're floating around without even a xenon thing.

Also, another ship is floating around in Kerbal orbit...with only a xenon thing.

Is there a way to keep it running while I'm off on another ship? Is there a way to switch between ships quickly?

If the two ships are within a couple of kilometers or so, you can use the { and } keys to cycle between craft.

As far as rescuing the Kerbals - probably best to send up another ship that they can space walk to, unless you have a docking port to refuel the existing ship.

I have a docking port, I can't get the ships close enough though.

Also, how do you use the xenon thing? You can't warp while using it.
