Soyuz and Progress

Recommended Posts

These are my two-man Soyuz and unmanned Progress replicas I use for my Salyut stations. The launcher still needs some work, because it isn't accurate enough yet. But that will be for the next update :D

It has a very tight fuel budget, but a decent pilot should get it into a 75km orbit. If you're having trouble getting to orbit just jettison the LES and fairing sooner, so you don't have to drag those along. Before launch, double tap 0 to lock a whole bunch of gimbals. 1 activates the solar panels and antenna, 2 jettisons the LES and the fairing. When launching the Soyuz, make sure you control it from the probe core. This is because I made it a 2-man craft by clipping 2 pods together, which results in a slightly turned artificial horizon.

Also, I've tried replacing the adapter on the Progress with a nosecone and cubic strut. Looks way more like the real thing and doesn't give any problems... until you dock. Then the craft starts pivoting around the cubic strut, and when undocked again stays frozen in the twisted position it was undocked in, sometimes even explodes after undocking. Anybody know what causes this? I do use clipping a lot, through the debug menu, is it just that or is it an actual bug?

**EDIT**

As you can see, the problem is mostly fixed. The orbital module looks way better and doesn't make stuff go wonky. However, when docking the Soyuz craft, the steering will often get stuck. This is easily fixed by switching to another craft or going back to the Space Center.

Some time ago I tried to dock a space shuttle to a station with a docking port that was attached to the cubic strut and got very similar result: my shuttle and station exploded. Once I attached a docking port of the shuttle to the fuel tank, everything went fine :)

Hm, so docking ports and cubic struts really don't like each other...

I had a docking port directly attached to a cubic strut in a previous version, also in combination with a nosecone. That was on the orbital module, and also, like now, it looked way better that the six RCS tanks. But as expected, that spazzed out when docked. So now, I tried moving the strut back, so the new version had it on the descend module. It should have been fine, since the strut was connected to a decoupler, and the docking port to the probe core. But alas, to no avail. It definitely has to do with the docking port and strut combo, not the nosecone. Maybe I'll try strutting the strut, see if that helps.

Yo dawg, we heard you like struts, so we put some struts in yo struts, so they can strut while they strut *sorry couldn't resist :P*

Update-time!

I edited the first post so it looks a bit nicer, added a big craft update and it now has up to date pictures as well. I've updated the Salyut thread as well, so the links for the new crafts can be found there.

This will be the last update until the start of September, as I have some real-life stuff that need attending right now :)
