If you have been interested in space gaming for a while, you may or may not have heard of a little game called "Buzz Aldrin's Race into Space" released in 1993 for MS-DOS and later in 1994 for Windows. In this game, you take command of either NASA or the Soviet Space Agency during the space race of the 1960's with the goal of getting a man on the moon before your opponent does. In December of 2012, Slitherine Games announced that they are working with Buzz Aldrin to make a new game based on BARIS, it has been called Buzz Aldrin's Space Program Manager set for release some time this year. Not much is known about this game yet. Keep up with their website at http://www.slitherine.com/games/BA_SPM_Pc

Whatever, check this out:

For example, instead of sending men to the Moon using the Lunar Orbit Rendezvous (LOR) approach used by Project Apollo in the late 1960s and early 1970s, you will be able to rewrite history and use either the alternative Earth Orbit Rendezvous (EOR) or Direct Ascent schemes. The number of options ensures every game will be different and there is huge replay value.

To ensure the accuracy and authenticity of the game it is being developed in consultation with Dr. Buzz Aldrin, former U.S. Air Force combat pilot (66 missions in Korea) and NASA astronaut, who took part in the first Moon landing mission and became the second human being to walk on the Moon.

Now if we could actually control the rockets/planes this would be interesting.

Yeah, it would be way cool if it included the more strategic 'program management' elements that is seems to focus on with more 'hands-on' control and physics like in KSP.

But, maybe that is down the road in 10 years when, after both KSP and SPM are triple-platinum smash hits, Squad and Matrix team up for the Big Momma of space program sims ;)
