Kerbals... Too Dumb, or too smart?

Well let's work through this:

I wouldn't say that they are too dumb or too smart. They're kind of in between.

I wouldn't say that they are damn cute when they are about to be blown to bits by slamming into the ground at 800m/s.

Therefore, the only logical conclusion is that they are green.

As far as I know they don't have wars.

So I'm inclined to say they're smarter then us.

Perhaps they are "suicidal" because they know they will respawn

You ever see the old Star Trek episode "A Piece of the Action?" I think they're like that. Instead of a starship leaving behind a gangland history book, or McCoy leaving forgetting his tricorder, somehow the Kerbals intercepted old Earth TV transmissions and are doing their best to mimic what they saw. They're very good at it, but lack the cultural context.

They're smart enough to build rockets... but lack any common sense whatsoever.

B9 mentioned before that the Kerbals are actually superior engineers compared to humans and are probably more intelligent, they are just indifferent towards safety which gives them the appearance of being dumb.

They're smart, just no regard to the safety of others or themselves.

That said, they're adorable.

They're clearly very intelligent, they can make superb rocket parts. However, they are a hive mind hell bent on leaving the planet. Since the loss of a few individual drones matters very little to the hive as a whole they just don't care for safety, giving the impression of stupidity.

Mission Proposal

Humans : Too dangerous, too costly and probably will be canceled before we end doing simulations .

Kerbals : It might work... launch next week ?

They're just a bunch of overly well-funded, overcompetent engineers that have near-zero common sense. Thus being both too smart AND too dumb at the same time.

They're also cute green bundles of marshmallow-y joy. So all of the above.

Too smart, damn cute, and not at all averse to saying "Screw it, we're going." Also undeniably green, which is why I voted all except too dumb. How would a race of idiots develop a space center before any observable infrastructure of society?
