How to get TVR400L quad stack adapter into space?

Recommended Posts

People,

For my crew transfer vehicle I am making a detachable stage to propel it between planets. It's an orange tank with a quad stack adapter below. On the quad adapter are four LV-N motors.

My question, how do I get this mounted on a stage in such a way that I don't blow up the whole tank or lose half the engines when trying to decouple it?

Thank you for any ideas/suggestions.

Due to the way the editor in KSP works it is not possible to dive the rocket in different parts and the reunite them in one part again. Every added part is only attached to ONE old one.

To make it work you could try lots of struts or do it the way I did it: I brought my nuclear transfer stage facing upwards to orbit and then turned it.

Also you could try to attach your whole lifter to the side of the shown stage so there are no stages below it.

Thanks,

That clears things up a lot. In the end struts worked and my new interplanetary transport/lander is in orbit. Two launches in all, well, two successful launches, you don't want to know what the launchpad looks like...

Johnno has the answer to fairings. The answer to getting the 4-to-1 part connected is to use docking ports below the decouplers under the engines. When you launch, only one docking port is connected. But immediately when physics starts, the other three will connect up. Then you have a good rigid connection.
