What is the best way to travel to Eeloo and Moho?

Recommended Posts

I've had pretty good success using Eve orbit as an intermediary. Got a ship into Eve orbit with a bunch of fuel, dropped probes there, and decided to see if I could make Moho. Then managed to JUST get it into orbit.

I've just started visiting the further planets. My whole system is the stepping stone one. I'm launching refuelers and putting them in orbit around each planet in turn. Its not the most efficient in terms of delta-v but its a ton easier to get there and back with plenty of fuel.

I made trips with return to both Eeloo and Moho using the same technique: First put into orbit a big ass interplanetary stage, with LV-Ns and plenty of DV. Then make a second launch with your lander, dock with the atomic interplanetary stage in orbit, and away you go. From there you can either wait for a window or brute force and see what happens :P

When visiting Moho, am I better off trying to shed energy at Eve by diving through its atmosphere, or getting a gravity assist? Or just going to Moho and forgetting about all that purple goodness?

Just go to Moho. It doesn't take a lot of delta-V to get there, and I can't imagine a situation that going to Eve first would benefit you unless you were not on course for Moho during your Eve encounter. And if you botch your Moho rendezvous, another launch window opens up fairly quickly.

I got to eeloo without using launch windows or stuff.Everything I used was a normal lander used for mun missions,a tug with LV-N,and a lucky shot when eeloo was nearing its closest point to the sun. It's actually hard to get an intersect with eeloo while it's closest to the sun,so wait while eeloo is still far away from that point.

In short, use LV-N and maneuver nodes.

Moho is pretty hard,if you try to get an intersect at periapsis, you will need lots of delta v to slow down ship to get into orbit around moho. But it's actually not as hard as people say. :)
