First model making project, part appears sideways in VAB

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm creating my first parts in blender, exporting to unity and then into KSP via KSP tools. Everything is going fine, except the part is appearing sideways in the VAB.

A bit for detail:

So I create the part in blender, create textures and normal maps then fire unity.

I have KSP tools all set up in unity and I import the .blend file, check the texture appears correct then add the collision mesh and normal map.

I have the position and rotation set to 0 and the scale to 1 and the part (a rocket fuel tank) is aligned on the Z axis (like I want it to be in the VAB.

I then write the KSP part using KSP tools.

After loading KSP the part appears on it's side.

So I go back to Unity, change the Y rotation to 90 then re-write the part.

Back in KSP it's still on it's side. I've also tried rotating the X axis, still no change.

Each time the attachment nodes are appearing at the top and bottom, like they should, except they appear in the left and right of the model. Like the model is 90 out of phase with the attachment points.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Quick question, since this gets most blender users, I find.

Did you ctrl+A, "Apply Rotation"?

If you rotate the mesh in object mode, that rotation is not actually applied until you hit ctrl+A and select rotation.

Additionally, when you rotate in Unity, do the nodes and the model rotate, or does nothing happen?
