The banshee (/ˈbænʃiËÂ/ ban-shee), from Irish: bean sí [bʲæn ˈʃiËÂ] ("woman of the sídhe" or "woman of the fairy mounds") is a female spirit in Irish mythology, usually seen as an omen of death and a messenger from the Otherworld. In legend, a banshee is a fairy woman who begins to wail if someone is about to die.

First in a new class of drop ship the Banshee has everything you need to make life very unpleasant for anyone or anything on the receiving end. Can be loaded up with high velocity missiles, cluster bombs or even a pair of cruise missiles! Even fully loaded the Banshee is fast, nimble and packs a devastating punch. Using Romfarer's Laser Docking Camera the Banshee is capable of pin sharp accuracy, either through the front mounted targeting port or the vertically mounted bomb sight. This ship replaces the attack version of the Scythe, which while performing admirably was held back by a very low ammunition count of just 14 projectiles.

The Banshee comes in four flavors, the first and most effective is the M model which comes loaded up with 40 high velocity rockets. These rockets pack quite a punch and are accurate to around 500m. They're great for engaging moving targets or even air to air combat. The front targeting port is mounted 10* downwards which will make your missiles hit true at a range of around 50m providing you're roughly level with your target.

Next up is the Bombardier version or B model which comes stuffed to the gills with cluster bombs. While not very effective against tougher targets these bombs are great for taking out solar or communication arrays. Can be used low down or if you fancy you can try your hand at high altitude strategic bombing (not easy). There are two versions included in the archive, the first drops bombs individually while the B2 version drops them in groups of four.

Over compensating perhaps? Or maybe you just want to make a statement? Whatever the reason the model D or Diplomat version is great for announcing your arrival on the world stage. Best used against big things. Stand well back when firing.

Lastly we have the BM model which combines four bomb racks with a stack of missiles. A good choice if you're not sure how the days going to pan out. Like the bomber version this model also comes with an alternative fire mode designated BM2.

OWNERS MANUAL:

Don't worry I'm not going to mention joysticks, not even once.

The craft files can be found here, they need to move into your space plane folder in the KSP directory. I've also included a couple of challenges which will give you stuff to shoot at. There's Fishfood Frenzy (easy), and my latest challenge; Infiniglider Mayhem (Not Very Easy). I still haven't made the official challenge pages yet but feel free to sharpen your VTOL skillz in preparation. :)

While the craft is stock you really need Romfarers Lazor or Docking Cam mods to get the best out of it. For any joystick owners out there, I recommend re-mapping the stage control to your trigger button. The triangular undercarriage needs to be used with care, I recommend keeping the brakes on and landing at as slow a speed as possible. If the craft does roll over, eject any weapons you're carrying and the reaction wheel will have enough torque to flip you back over. While on the subject the Banshee is exceptionally maneuverable and can become a bit of a handful after all it's weapons are expended. As your ammo count gets low I recommend pressing 9 to disable the reaction wheel, don't worry the cockpit will still have more then enough torque to keep you flying. You should also keep the SAS on at all times.

CONTROLS:

1 - Toggle Jet

2 - Toggle Rockets

3 - Toggle Landing/Econo Mode (shuts down 2 of the 4 rocket engines for a broader throttle response.)

5 - Launch Challenge (For Fishfood Frenzy And Inifiniglider Mayhem, set full throttle first.)

8 - Toggle Headlights

9 - Toggle Reaction Wheel Torque

SPACE - Fire!

ABORT - Un-Dock/De-Couple

I can't help it, they're too much fun to shoot at. :( I am moving on to trucks and infinigliders though (apologies for fans of both).

Interesting the weapons you made for it.

They're pretty basic, but they do the job. I will also endevour never again to not mention joysticks by mentioning... Wait.... I'm confused... Oh well. :)

Don't blow up the KSC. As long as you get the "explosive core" ideal, you can make it bigger, and bigger..

That's some pretty explosive stuff you've got there, the poor train didn't know what hit it. I'm going to have to play around with it to get it a bit more stable and compact but it's certainly got potential. :)
