Can anyone please explain the ksp dragsystem to me?

Because i want to land on eve(i know the atmosphere is thick, but: ) with a very heavy lander, i wanted to calculate the number of parachutes.... But i dont know what to do with this drag value....

I tried to calculate it with the assumption that this dragvalue equals drag coefficient times area, but it obviously does not....

Does anyone have an idea?

Here is the drag equation for KSP:F_D = 0.5*rho*V^2*C_D*mF_D = force of dragrho = atmospheric densityV = velocityC_D = drag coefficientm = mass wtf is wrong with the forums now?

Drag on a part is 0.5 Cd A rho v^2

Cd is 0.008

A is the drag value times the mass.

Rho is the density (not the pressure, though they're related)

v is your air speed (surface speed, not orbit speed)

Add it up for all the parts in your vessel.

cause either the force has the wrong unit or c_d has one(m^2/kg), or am i wrong?

Alternatively just use Parachute Calculator.

Every part; this is a simplification that squad will some day fix, but they've been busy with more important tasks. You can use the FAR plugin to get more realistic aerodynamics.
