Some things that Kerbals could do!

Recommended Posts

Now, having recently done a routine Mun landing, I've had some ideas about more things one could do during EVA (I know they're planning more EVA activities, but obviously I don't know what).

Kerbals should be able to do some scientific or otherwise amusing things such as:

Deploy Mini Communitarian Antennae.

Deploy Docking Ports attached to the Surface of a Planet.

Build little adobe houses from Duna Dirt.

Light a Campfire and Pitch tents.

Attempt to roast marshmallows and tell scary stories.

Write their names in the Sand/Mun Dirt/Regolith

Make a Sand/Mun Dirt/Regolith Castle

Deploy portable solar panels & RTGs.

Play Golf.

Take rock sample cores.

Attempt to Break Dance.

Throw Snowballs (or Dirtballs, where appropriate).

Deploy portable structures for their off-world encampment such as Radiation Umbrellas, Floodlights, and Portable Toilets.

Etc.

Adding some little things they can do would greatly increase the amusement, hilarity, and depth of conducting a mission to another planet. Just watch your Kerbalnauts clown around a bit or do some science. Any thoughts on such?

Make a Sand/Mun Dirt/Regolith Castle

Ok, one time on my opening screen, the one with the Kerbal standing on the Mun, next to the "Start Game" Menu, there was a regolithcastle just in front of him. The next time I loaded, it was gone.

I have no idea if it is a normal, recurring, thing, or if it was from a mod or something, but I havn't noticed it since.

Am i crazy?

It would be hilarious to see this stuff. Some ideas:

1.) "Do Science!" Kerbal puts on a Lab Coat (over his EVA suit, baa ha), and a table with flasks and stuff just appears. The Kerbal shakes his arms and panics for about 30 seconds, then the table and lab coat disappear.

2.) "25 Hour Fitness" Kerbal puts on one of those "muscle t-shirts" (of course, over his EVA suit again), and begins doing push ups/sit ups/jumps and does "pull ups" on nothing.

3.) "Phone Home" Kerbal conjures up an 80s cell phone, mashes the phone with his fist, then sticks it to his helmet. He pounds the phone on the side of his helmet for a few seconds, before giving up and putting the phone away.

4.) "Pale Blue Dot" (Only available when Kerbin is unobstructed) Kerbal pulls a telescope out of nowhere, and stares at Kerbin through it. Has the awestruck face the entire time.

5.) "The Corned Beef" Kerbal produces a sandwich out of his EVA suit, and attempts to eat it. Of course, he can't through his helmet. Then some random chatter comes over the comms, the Kerbal becomes panicked, picks up a chunk of ground, and "hides" the sandwich beneath it.

6.) "One small step" The Kerbal produces a door out of nowhere, and makes a majestic step onto the surface.

7.) "You Blew It Up!" (Only available at an anomaly) Kerbal acts out the classic Planet of the Apes scene, silently.

8.) "AYYYYY" Kerbal produces sunglasses, puts them on, and does a double thumbs up.

9.) Obligatory Robot Dance

10.) "The Exorcist" The Kerbal turns his helmet 180 degrees, and his head follows it. His eyes go wide, then the Kerbal turns the helmet back to the normal orientation like nothing happened.

11.) Obligatory "This goes to 11!"

12.) "Taxes" A desk filled with papers just appears, and the Kerbal suddenly wears reading glasses. Interplanetary paperwork ensues.

13.) "Fine Dining" A table appears out of nowhere, with a 7 course meal prepared. Kerbal is now wearing a monocle and a Tuxedo (both over his EVA suit and helmet, baa ha)

Just having some emotes would be amazing. But are wishful thinking at this point in KSP's life. It would be awesome during the polish phase though.

Actually yes, KrazyKrl, stuff like that. Cute little animations the Kerbals could do on the Mun or wherever. As well, another neat idea would be to give them an inventory of goodies they could store in the Lander and deploy, in the same way as flags, but that would serve some other purpose. RTGs being just one example.

I think the devs want to keep the game somewhat realistic, so very cartoonish things like conjuring doors or seven course meals doesn't really fit. But having them behave like total idiots would be fun.

There has been a lot of focus on snacks, and I would love my kerbals to taste different types of soil. I would also love to see them use the worst possible tool to do tasks. For example use a hammer to repair a broken solar panel, or a drill to repair a wheel.

I would also love to see them use incredibly complex ways to do silly things, like a camp fire powered by liquid fuel.

In the same vein, they could have small animations in IVA, like trying to play board games in free flight, eating, throwing paper planes.

But this kind of things take quite a lot of time without being really useful, and I think it should be reserved for the late stages of the development.

Things like throwing paper airplanes, playing golf on other planets and so on could count as silly kerbal experiments. I mean, humans have done similar things in the name of science(and shenanigans) so who's to say kerbals wouldn't want to do those things too?

As for things like trying to light a campfire on another planet...that's just silly and kind of needless. I'm all for adding things, even silly things so long as they're sensible and can serve some kind of purpose(even if you have to stretch the explanation a bit) but completely frivolous things that have no real function are a bit too much, even for me.

Yup. You are crazy.

About the sandcastle, it has a 1 in 40 chance to be there.
