Is the water of Laythe less dense now?

I've recently been trying to rebuild my floating Laythe base, but I've noticed that my Kerbals and machines sink further into the water in 0.21 now compared to 0.20. Is there a reason why Squad changed this? It doesn't really affect the way I build my base, but I was wondering why they would change something like this to obscure the Kerbal's faces when they are swimming....

I've been using kerbals as hydrometers to measure the density of the liquid in lakes all over Laythe (by seeing how deep the kerbals float). And it turns out that they float at different depths in various lakes (or in he same lake at different times). I have not figured out the rhyme or reason for this.

First of all, we don't even know if the "water" on laythe is even water.

Anyways, I doubt the developers would intentionally spend time with such a small detail so I would bet that it is unintentional.

I say 'water' out of simplicity because it's never said what it is. Regardless, Kerbals all sink to the same level when they are on Kerbin, Eve and Laythe seas. So it's not a stretch to believe that SQUAD made all liquids behave the same in order to keep things simple.

What I would like to know exactly is what change, unintentional or not, that affected the water physics to allow for this.

Playing around with 'ocean' terrain settings in the settings.cfg file causes the 'physical' surface of the water to move above the visible surface so they are two separate entities in the game. I guess that simply the visible and 'physical' surfaces don't match up exactly at different locations around laythe, and this causes the discrepancy.
