Space Junk Collision

I tend to design my rockets via guesstimates, So my stage that's SUPPOSED to be just enough to circularize my orbit ends up being dumped and allowed to fall back to Kerbin while my Interplanetary/drive stage finishes the orbit and completes the mission, therefore I don't accumulate much space debris to collide with.

If you DO collide, you either have an extra layer of 'atmosphere' that's composed of space junk or are just UNGODLY unlucky/lucky,

While watching map view during a landing on a return course to Kerbin, my lander suddenly violently exploded and shook me out of map view. I checked the logs and it said something about a rockomax-64 collided with my ship...yeah, it can happen. I don't think it will happen again.

Thanks to the new tracking station filter, debris is hidden in capsule/lander view, which is awesome. I used to reset my profile to get rid of debris in the old days for no other reason than the clutter made it difficult to select your ship. Nowadays, bring it on, I love looking at my debris field by selecting it in the filter, it gives me a sense of productivity.

Now, back to your point: I would say you were "lucky". Hitting debris is very rare, even with heavy orbital pollution. Aside from a Kerbal's untimely death, I would LOVE to hit some OLD debris unexpectedly, assuming it was not my space station. It would be a symbol of productivity and destruction in the same event.
