Option to delete parts from the same Game parts menu

Recommended Posts

I guess is very tedious for all install big parts mods like novapunch and find that we love some addons but not so much others.

So if we wanna delete the parts that we dont use, we need to note the tittle names and then try to find those names searching in each CFG files to locate and delete them.

Taking into account how much time we lose loading and searching between the parts that we dont need, and the higher risk of system crash due to many parts. I guess it would be a great addom if we had the option to delete some parts directly from the game UI (menu selection).

With a little warning message to alert if the part is from stock.

Also it would be great if we could refresh the part menu with the deleting files and the new files added after we start KSP.

What I usually do is whenever I want to install a new parts pack mod, I do it on a separate clean KSP install I have just for testing...

I fire up the game and search for whatever parts I want to keep..

Then I alt + tab the game and copy the part files to another directory..

I keep doing this until I am happy, then I install only my "custom" directory on my main game...

It's far from what you want, but at least you don't need to reload the game all the time (I used to do your way before, it's a pain if you have lots of mods)

dazhat: Becouse I am talking about parts, no full mods. Novapunch or B9 has like hundreds of part each. If I need to look and search in each cfg file to see what is the part that I want to delete (mostly of the times I delete a 80%) it takes me like 6 hours. Just for those 2 mod.

So I am asking, it will not be a lot better if we had an option to delete parts that we dont won from the game itself?

Thiagobs: I do almost the same, but we need to look inside cfg files to see if the part that we want to delete is the same that we see in the game. Becouse the tittle names and their position from menu are different from the files names and their directories.

Is almost crazy that we need to do all that just to delete one part.

I don't think it would be a good idea as a vanilla tool for several reasons:

- Deleting Squad parts could mess up the career mode.

- Deleting parts that are use by craft files or vessel will make the game crash.

- It should be a soft delete so you could revert in case of problem.

- The way mods manage parts are very very different:

. most of them follow squad way and have a folder per parts with the model and texture inside

. Procedural fairing do not use folder, just a all bunch of cfg/model/texture inside one folder.

. Some mods share the same model file but have different .cfg files.

There is just too many different way to store a part in the mod folder, and in the case of shared model, when do you delete the model itself?

Now here are a few things:

- Mods should try to name their parts so they are easier to find (and squad too to be honest)

- try to use program that can search inside multiple text file like that one to find the good cfg with the title.

- You don't need to restart the game when you modify those part folder. Just go bck to the space center, alt+F12, Database tab and reload all button.

OK, you are right, I dint thought in career mode and the fact that differents part can use the same file.

Also you had good suggestions of how to mitigate these problems.

But I guess one problem remains, the amount of parts that we would need to have if we want more freedom in our construction set.

And here is the bottleneck taking into account the low efficiency of unity engine and how much time we spend trying to find the parts that we want.

I know that you did a good job in your mod to solve some of those problems, but I guess the final solutions will come in the shape of procedural parts.

I want to open a discussion about that in a different thread beacouse I think that topic was not closely touch.

By the way, thanks for the multiple text editor, I do that with dreamweaver when I want to edit web code, but it never occurred to me to use it for find parts.
