BIG rover to outer planets

I noticed that I can't deploy big enough rocket for my rover to get duna. I have now placed large fuel "station" in orbit with docking mechanism. So can I just dock to it and refuel my rocket and carry on to duna? =)

Try it . Make sure you have enough chutes and thrust to slow down on duna and enough RCS for docking.

Air on Duna starts at 15 km, so use a lander to brake decent under 150m/s.

Actual question here is how docking mechanism works? Do I need some device in rocket to dock my station or will it just dock to docking port? And is it quaranteed that docking port will allow me to deliver fuel to my rocket. Everything else is pretty straight forward for me. Fuel has been problem and now possibly have it in orbit (if fuel "station" works like thought it would)

I will try... hopefully docking and fueling works.

Once you get to interplanetary ships with huge payloads, building/refueling a rocket in orbit becomes pretty much the best way to go about it. Good luck!

How big of a rover are you wanting to send to Duna (by which I mean "what's it's mass")? I've sent a couple Hellhounds there myself - they weigh in about four tonnes a pop.

Landing large rovers on Duna can be done with refuelling in Kerbin orbit and use a nice big nuclear engined tug. Just remember to give your rover rocket engines of its own for landing!

I had no luck yet docking multirover with my stardrive. I always miss the darn thing. :/

This may be a stupid question - but where exactly is your docking port on your rover? I see the senior sitting on top of the stardrive.

I'm also trying to figure out what that bit is sitting on top of your command pod.

If I've got all the parts right, it looks like the payload (i.e. the rover) is about 36 tonnes. I don't know what that bit is on top, so let's make it an even 40 tonnes. About the same for the star drive....so about 4000 delta-V. Yeah, that should be able to get your there and back without problem.

A rover that massive though...six chutes is NOT going to cut it. Not on Duna anyway.

Thanks for advices! Safely landed on duna. Now I can finally say "ToOrbitStandard", "StarDrive" & "MultiRover" is my way visiting duna. =D
