Playing KSP the hard way (abyssal lurker)

He didn't retract his ladder before ascent from the Mun and he didn't retract his landing gear either. That's just sloppy piloting, toes or no toes :P

Seriously though, that was pretty cool. Makes me think back to how big a deal it was to land on the Mun for the first time, and how trivial it seems to do so now. Don't get discouraged, young Kerbonauts - some day you too will be able to do it with your hands tied behind your back!

Apparently I've been doing it wrong the whole time...

Landing on the moon in 4 easy steps:

1. Get some dashing socks

2. Toss back a couple.

3. ???

4. Profit!

BTW, landing on Minmus is just as easy, actually. You spend about 60 more Dv to get there, but about 100 less Dv between insertion and landing.

Yes, but accounting for the inclination without map mode, and only being able to use high thrust boosters in the low gravity. I suppose it would be harder if he hadn't already had some practice doing just that.

If I remember correctly, he also stopped off at the Mun in that mission.

Definitely true - but landing on Minums is as easy as the Mun if you are using your hands.

As far as fixing inclination - you don't have to. =) Just schedule your arrival so that Minmus and your ship meets a node upon arrival - which saves a fair amount of Dv.

beginner mode, easy mode, normal mode, hard mode, chuck Norris mode, Manley mode

MANLEY MODE WITH YOUR TOES

brilliant, and with a nice taste in socks

Well Manley mode would be to use just the lander, without that launching stage. And landing on the launch platform. Without the chute. That's just extra weight, which you really don't want to carry with you when using ion engines only.

  • 1 year later...
Abyssal mode, SpaceSphereOfDeath.

Now all he has to do is go to Minmus and back without the map screen or hands, using only solid boosters, and without rotating the craft at all.

Aaaaannnnndddd... he did.

(sorry for the necro, thought it was relevant ;P )
