If I succeed in this, I will uninstall the game and never play again.

Your persistence has inspired me to make my absurd quest of the past six months public.

Bob Kerman: "Hey Jeb, there's another challenge up!"

Jeb turns off the rocket, partially deaf.

Jeb Kerman: "Bunch of orange tanks again? How heavy?"

Bob Kerman: "Well, 36 tons per..."

Jeb: "What? 36 Orange Tanks? Okay."

http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/51471-The-KSP-Valdez-Probably-the-largest-useful-tanker

pointers: To get this large without crashing, you need to minimize part count. To minimize part count, you need to equalize TWR among full tank stacks, and support them just enough that they don't break off when they're almost empty. Not having a rocket engine underneath during launch is *not an option* due to differential stresses - asparagus and eject if you don't want to use the fuel inside a tank.

Hah! Awesome. You did what I was going for without my absurd part counts! Well done. I guess that means I can shelve this one. :)

Or you could out-do my attempt. But it's going to take a while - I have a dozen other tanker designs archived, and 30 different variations on this one. I don't mean to steal anyone's thunder: Consider it a challenge, and a reason not to quit the game :)

I'm really curious about something. Why do you use large stacks of the middle sized fuel tank, instead of the larger orange tank? What you're doing has a higher part count, so I assume there's some benefit that outweighs that?

It's always seemed to me that the silver tanks have stronger end connection points. That could be confirmation bias.

And I will weep as I do it. Because it I pull this off, I will never, ever make anything so grand again. This is my magnum opus.

If you leave because of that, you lack faith in yourself. you claim to slay level 100s as a level 20. perhaps the next level 100 is topping this.

please dont leave D:

edit: also, does the challenge call for no PART mods, or no mods period?

ie would subassembly loader or editor extensions be legal?

That seems more likely to be distance to CoM vs. twitchy physics?

I've thought it's due to the connections being merely equally strong, but a heavier orange tank causing more stress. With shorter tanks, there are more joints to divide the forces. Like in nature, a stiff tree might crack in a strong wind, but a willow will bend and spring back.

The problem is, a rocket should neither bend nor break...

Six would have been just fine for the laughs, but I like the dragon-slayer attitude. I look forward to the screenshots.

I like how your initial reaction is belief that he can do it rather than "That is pure madness!"

I too want to see it happen!! :)

I need to switch direction. Maybe. I blame the ADHD. Currently considering the following:

They're jaded because of the coffee thread. That reaction is based on a proven track record hehe.

We're not jaded, we just have evidence, therefore it's not a matter of belief, just time, coffee and regret (in no particular order).

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
