A few quick questions

Recommended Posts

I`m still new but i`m getting things into space. I just tried starting to build a space station and i`ve come into two problems..

Problem 1# when launching a playload I think I am top heavy because my ship starts doing flips when I enter a grav turn. How can I solve this.. What do you all do for top heavy payloads.

Problem 2# Can someone recommend so good station mods? I want to build like good crew quarters and such. I`ve tired Kosmos Space Station Parts Pack but my game crashes ( I might have to many mods)..

I am running b9, Crewmaifest, FAR, ioncross,KAS, Kathane, Mechjeb2, Nova, RemoteTech.

For some reason I can use KW rocketry with nova either.

thanks,

Greg

RE: Problem 1, there are two options. You can either have a higher thrust to weight ratio which effectively 'pushes' your nose hard enough that it keeps going the way you want it to go, or, the better option, is to start your gravity turn later so that the impact of being top heavy is less pronounced as you are in a microgravity environment.

Alternatively, start it much earlier, but start it much shallower, so that you don't deviate away from your prograde vector much.

Check if you have an SAS module for stability.

Then make sure you have winglets. Start your gravity turn at 10k, when they still have effect. Do it slowly, try 5 degrees per kilometer you go up. Also make sure your engine gimbal (effectively a form of thrust vectoring) is on. Also, theres a single engine, i think its the LV-30, that doesnt have gimbal. Try replacing it with LV-45s. Check the tooltip of both to see which one has thrust vectoring and use that.

If you have aerodynamic surfaces (tail fins, winglets, canards, etc) on your rocket make sure they're well behind the Centre of Mass; that will help keep the craft controllable while in the atmosphere. The classic rocket profile has fins on the back for a good reason...
