this maybe not count as 'top speed' but i used the suns gravity to slingshoot myself up to 116249.1 m/s while i was in the middle of the sun!

In my journey to the sun I reached 626,812m/s smoothly before getting ejected from the system at 54,462,119m/s

for speed trials 2 words: Solar orbit.

Get a little moon-shot, to sling you farther out from Kerbin orbit and you\'ll be going preeeeety darn fast.

That\'s easy. With stock parts even. You don\'t even need a Munar gravitational slingshot.

Anyways, one of my higher speeds was 2500 or something similar using some C7 engines... though slightly modded...

My fastest stock rocket? Well compared to some here, it\'s not that impressive, but my vanilla rocket reached 16.5 km/s, mostly because my piloting skills are still not up to snuff (I missed two munshots in a row :-[ )

The followup to the Aerophallus series, the Astrophallus series promises even greater penetration (ahem) in the Kerbal market. It\'s a whoile lotta power, almost too much for any mere mortal ;P
